Taylor Swift’s ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ Makes Spotify History Again & Breaks Own Record
Taylor Swift continues to make history with her music and this time 1989 (Taylor’s Version) has broken a record that the singer and songwriter set herself.
1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the latest release in Swift’s effort to own her music catalog completely and with its release on Friday, it became Spotify’s most-streamed album in 2023. Swift also became the most-streamed artist in a single day in the music streamer’s history.

Swift originally released 1989 in 2014 and the album featured hit songs like “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Bad Blood,” “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods” and “New Romantics.” For this album, Swift went on to win Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2016 Grammys.
Swift also recently made headlines for topping the music charts with a song that’s four years old. “Cruel Summer,” from her album Lover, which was released in 2019, reached the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
With “Cruel Summer” hitting No. 1, Swift became the first female artist to score ten No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and ten No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. “Cruel Summer” also gave Swift the longest run for a female soloist from a Hot 100 debut to No. 1, excluding holiday songs, climbing to the top spot after four years and two months.
“We just wanted to say thank you so much for making ‘Cruel Summer’ a Hot 100 No. 1 and it’s not even the summer anymore. It’s deep fall, I’m wearing a sweater. We love you guys,” Swift said in a video shared on social media alongside “Cruel Summer” co-writer Jack Antanoff.
