The stars arrived at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, and as usual, the looks did not disappoint. While other award shows tend to be black tie and attendees lean into more elegant red carpet choices, the VMAs have always been a moment for edgier more fun and playful looks—and the stars took that to heart this year.

Taylor Swift hit the black carpet at the event on Wednesday and left fans in awe with her look, a clear departure from her usual looks. Swift wore a pair of eye-grabbing UltraStuart Maveric Stuart Weitzman thigh high boots that intensified her ensemble.

Halle Bailey found the perfect middle ground between formal and sexy. She wore a deep red strapless midi dress that hit right around her ankles with some fringe revealing a pair of sexy and playful red strappy sandals. The dress also had a slight cut off by her hip, giving it a more flirty appeal.

Tate McRae seemingly paid tribute to an iconic Britney Spears look wearing a lace mini dress similar to the one the “Lucky” singer wore to the 2001 VMAs. McRae paired her look with a pai of opened toe patent leather black heels, while Spears wore high heeled sandals with hers.

Sabrina Carpenter arrived on the black carpet giving major old Hollywood energy. The singer arrived in a full all-white ensemble, wearing a gown worn by Madonna to the 1991 Oscars. She updated the look with a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti Tarifa white leather open toe platform sandals.
