Taylor Swift’s Handwritten Note to Controversial Celebrity Under Scrutiny From Fans
Taylor Swift has come under a gentle fire for the handwritten note she had hand-delivered by her brother, Austin Swift, to Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy at an Oct. 19 Eras Tour show in Miami—but not for the reasons folks might think.
The social media personality is a controversial figure, having been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct. Portnoy also has a history of misogynistic "humor" and sexist attacks against women working in sports media. However, the scrutiny didn't stem from Portnoy's identity, but from the appearance of what appears to be a hastily written letter—specifically, Swift's handwriting.

Written on her iconic personal letterhead, which reads "from the desk of TAYLOR SWIFT" at the top and "SONGWRITER/FELINE ENTHUSIAST" at the bottom, Swift's note says, "Dave, I'm so happy to have you at the show tonight! I wanted to say thank you for always being so supportive, so loyal, and for having my back when a lot of people didn't. I hope you have a blast tonight!! Love, Taylor."
Despite his vocal support of Donald Trump, Portnoy came to the "Mastermind" singer's defense after her formal endorsement of Kamala Harris for president. "People can vote for whoever they want in this country," he tweeted at the time. "How somebody votes will never change my opinion of a person..."
Swift presumably scribbled the note out upon receiving confirmation he was in attendance and didn't leave herself much room at the bottom for her signature, squeezing it in between the final line and her printed signoff.
While Portnoy's fans were thrilled he received the personalized message from Swift, many were less than impressed with the look of it.
"This is amazing but low key she has terrible hand writing," one person replied to a photo he shared on his podcast's Instagram account, while another wrote, "I didnt think anyone could have worse handwriting than me till I saw this."
Other commenters agreed, "That signature is wild lol," and, "The signature is not what I’d expect," while another said, "Wow I would have thought Taylor would have beautiful handwriting ????."
Others felt that Swift hadn't written the note herself, with one declaring, "I’m sure it was her assistant…" and another comment reading, "I’m sorry but the signature isn’t Taylor’s lol."
However, when compared to the handwriting of more recent journal entries from the singer, which were reprinted in special editions of Lover, it's pretty similar.
