Taylor Swift Ignites ‘Reputation’ Buzz Following Her VMA’s Red Carpet Look
I’ll preface this by saying that Swifties will see Easter eggs wherever they want to, but there is something about Taylor Swift’s VMA Red Carpet look that was really screaming, “There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation.” (But then again, we’ve been saying this since the start of the year.)
The singer’s look, a chartreuse and navy blue tartan corset high low dress with straps and a major leg moment, was by Christian Dior. The dress was styled with a pair of strappy black leather gloves that came up to her biceps, thigh-high boots, and, shall we say, edgy bad girl makeup? I don’t know. It’s edgy for Taylor. It’s also a pretty steep departure from the looks we’ve been getting from her lately, the dreamy gowns, the glittery sequins. You know the vibe. Which is noteworthy because we’re now approaching a full calendar year since Taylor Swift has dropped another re-recording, the last one being 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October of last year.

The timeline of the previous re-recordings came as follows: Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) came out in 2021. Then she took a break from the re-recordings in 2022 because she released an original album Midnights that year. Then she dropped two more in 2023, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version). And so far, in 2024, presumably because she released The Tortured Poets Department this year, we haven’t gotten another one. There are two remaining albums to re-record: her debut album, Taylor Swift and her last album under Big Machine Records, Reputation.
Fans are speculating that Reputation is next. I couldn’t exactly tell you why they think that, but they seem to be all in agreement, and who am I to argue with an entire village?
Outside of Reputation discourse, there also does seem to be the standard thing that happens when Taylor Swift makes a public appearance, which is that her styling sucks. I don’t know guys, I actually liked this look on her. I do agree that sometimes the styling doesn’t really do it, but this outfit ate. And yes, you may be afraid of the return of the high low dress, but don’t blame Taylor!
