#TBT: Watch Fifth Harmony's harmonious Yahoo visit from 2013
Fifth Harmony are officially movin’ on, to quote one of their first singles. Breakout member Camila Cabello departed under acrimonious circumstances in December 2016. And last week, the remaining members of the X Factor-spawned girl group — who are, much like X Factor-spawned boy band One Direction before them, going on indefinite hiatus to pursue their own solo careers — issued the emotional farewell video for “Don’t Say Goodbye,” off 5H’s third (and presumably final) album.
But things were very different in 2013, when the fresh-faced, fresh-off-the-television Cabello, Dinah Jane Hansen, Lauren Jauregui, Normani Kordei, and Ally Brooke Hernandez were about to release Better Together. That debut EP boasted a much more Radio Disney-friendly, teenybopper sound than sexy future hits like “BO$$” and “Work From Home,” and the 5H girls, who were put together by Simon Cowell on The X Factor USA Season 2, seemed to have become fast friends. Their cute camaraderie was evident as they entertained the Yahoo staff with an afternoon acoustic performance of “Miss Movin’ On” and the slumber-party anthem “Me & My Girls.”
“We literally can’t stay away from each other,” Hansen gushed to Yahoo Entertainment at the time. “We’re like attached at the hip,” Kordei added with a smile. Speaking of how they all bonded during their whirlwind reality TV experience, Cabello said, “Throughout the show, because of all the trials that we had to go through, emotionally we grew more and more. The actual chemistry was immediate, but the sisterhood [developed].”
As a way of saying goodbye to Fifth Harmony — at least for now — we’re rerunning this adorable footage of their Yahoo office visit five years ago.
