Teen Choice 2016 Recap: Battling Hosts, Moving Speeches, and Voting for Hillary
John Cena and Victoria Justice gave off a big brother–little sister vibe as they hosted Teen Choice 2016. Victoria started off the show trying to wrestle John (he didn’t even budge), and the two continued fighting all night long. The co-hosts went toe-to-toe in an epic dance battle that was judged by So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley and judge Maddie Ziegler. Cena and Justice battled each other in a 30-second selfie challenge, and Victoria got her Rocky Horror Picture Show co-star Laverne Cox to join in on the fun by spraying John in the face with water.
The show wasn’t all fun and games though — the night was highlighted by two moving speeches, one by Justin Timberlake and the other by Jessica Alba. JT was giving an acceptance speech for the first-ever Decade Award, and he had some inspirational words for the teens watching. After quoting Muhammad Ali, Timberlake said, “Be generous, kind, fair. It’s not just the right thing to do; it’s the good thing to do.”
Alba was joined onstage by some family members of recent gun-violence victims. The actress delivered a powerful message, and then Ne-Yo sang Marvin Gaye’s classic “What’s Going On.” After the song, the two celebs stood together with the family members and asked everyone in the audience to take a picture and post it to social media with #stoptheviolence.
