Terry Crews hits the Golden Buzzer for comedian Learnmore Jonasi on ‘AGT’ [WATCH]

On May 28, “America’s Got Talent” season 19 began with the first installment of audition episodes. In this initial stage of the competition, each judge is given two “golden buzzer” decisions to make where they can send an act straight through to the live shows. As host, Terry Crews had one choice to make for his “golden buzzer,” and he was not shy about using it on the premiere to give comedian Learnmore Jonasi the show’s highest honor. Watch the full performance in the video above.

Ahead of his audition, Learnmore expressed his excitement and gratitude for having the opportunity to come from Zimbabwe and be in Los Angeles to perform in front of Terry and the judges. When he met Terry backstage he told him that he was a big inspiration and changed his life. At that point, he said “nothing will top this” and he would have been satisfied just to go home after meeting Terry. Little did he know that Terry would change his life even more in a few short minutes.

In Learnmore’s stand up routine he told the stories of traffic lights, cell phone service and social media in his village and then compared that to what life is like from his perspective arriving in America where food portions are larger and he saw “poor white people.” Following his two minute set, Learnmore received an immediate standing ovation from the judges and audience. Sofia Vergara told him that he was “good from top to bottom” and Simon Cowell called him “one of the funniest people” that has been on the show “in years.” When Howie Mandel began to start the “yes” votes down the line of judges, Terry stopped him and descended the stage.

“Hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up!” Terry exclaimed. “You were backstage telling me that you were taking 14 hour bus trips to go perform for five minutes and then having to take 14 hour bus trips back home. Brother, you will never have to go back home again ’cause you are here with us forever.” That’s when the golden confetti rained down with the bestowing of Terry’s golden buzzer.

As the first golden buzzer act of the season, Learnmore will skip the next cut and advance straight to the live shows. He was joined by singer Richard Goodall who was chosen later in the evening by Heidi Klum to also receive the golden buzzer.
