There’s a dusting of Hortonville in the Hallmark Channel’s “A Very Vermont Christmas.”

The new holiday film that premiered earlier this month as part of the cable channel’s popular Christmas in July programming block features an original song by Staci Griesbach, “You and Me at Christmastime.”

Griesbach, who grew up in Hortonville and is a graduate of Hortonville High School, wrote the bouncy track for her 2023 “Christmastime” album.

“This single is all about the joy of snuggling up with someone you love at the holidays, and I couldn’t be more thrilled than to have the song featured in Hallmark’s Christmas in July series,” the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter said in a news release. “When I wrote the song, I envisioned it finding a home in a holiday feature film, so this is really exciting.”

Griesbach wrote the lyrics and music and performs it with Tamir Hendelman on piano, Kevin Axt on bass, Jake Reed on drums and Larry Koonse on guitar.

“A Very Vermont Christmas” stars Katie Leclerc and Ryan McPartlin in a story about a local champion skier and Vermont brew master as they team up to create a seasonal beer to — wait for it — save her family’s business. The movie debuted July 20, but for fans who don’t want to wait until its holiday season return in late November, it has two more showings this month: 11 a.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Listen for "You and Me at Christmastime" about halfway through the movie, as the two main characters are sitting together by a fire.

It’s the first time Griesbach has had her music picked up for a feature film but not the first time her work has gained national attention. “Walkin’ After Midnight,” the first single off her 2019 Patsy Cline jazz tribute album, “My Patsy Cline Songbook,” was called “a gorgeous jazz interpretation” by Rolling Stone as part of an article on the 10 best country and Americana songs to listen to at the time.

In March of 2023, Griesbach performed jazz renditions of Cline and George Jones songs at The Weidner in Green Bay — a stage she once performed on as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently working on new holiday music. She's on Spotify at open.spotify.com/artist/4AYJ30X58CPBmSpsXgWehO.
