Theater Latte Da and Crooners will honor Sondheim in a two-part concert experience
Feb. 5—Some of the Twin Cities musical theater greats will honor one of the all-time musical theater greats in two concert experiences.
Theater Latte Da and Crooners Supper Club present "Celebrating Sondheim" at Crooners. Act I is March 4 and 5, Act II will be May 6 and 7. Latte Da's artistic director Peter Rothstein will curate and direct the shows, which will feature a different cast for each staging. Act I features Sasha Andreev, Michelle Barber, Phinehas Bynum, Liz Hawkinson, Britta Ollmann, Tod Petersen and Janely Rodriguez. Act II features Kate Beahen, Mark Benninghofen, David Darrow, Bradley Greenwald, Anna Hashizume, Rodolfo Nieto Greta Oglesby and Sally Wingert.
Sondheim, who died Nov. 26, was the composer and lyricist of 19 major theater works. Latte Da, founded in 1998, is the most prolific producer of Sondheim musicals in the Twin Cities, according to a news release, having staged nine shows, starting with "Sunday in the Park with George" in 2003, up to "Assassins" (2018) and "A Little Night Music" (2019). Other Sondheim productions by the Minneapolis theater company include "Sweeney Todd" (2015), "Into the Woods" (2015), "Gypsy" (2006 and 2016) and "Company" (2012).
Most of the featured performers have appeared in Theater Latte Da Sondheim productions. Music direction is by Barbara Brooks (Act I) and Jason Hansen (Act II).
