The third film in the franchise is written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes, while Simon Curtis (who helmed 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era) is on board to direct.
That first sequel, A New Era, followed the Crawleys and their staff as they welcomed a movie crew to Downton for the filming of a silent film, while other members of the family embarked on a grand adventure to a villa in the south of France to uncover a mystery about the Dowager Countess.
No plot details for Downton Abbey 3 have been revealed, but the returning cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera and Douglas Reith.
Additionally, Dominic West (The Affair) also will be back as Guy Dexter, a character introduced in Downton Abbey: A New Era, while Paul Giamatti (Billions) will reprise his role of Harold Levinson (aka Cora Grantham’s brother).
New for the third film are Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Alessandro Nivola (Doll & Em, The Many Saints of Newark), Simon Russell Beale (Penny Dreadful) and Arty Froushan (Carnival Row).
