Timothée Chalamet’s Bob Dylan Biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’ to Screen Early In Imax Theaters
Searchlight Pictures and Imax are teaming to host special screenings of awards hopeful A Complete Unknown a week ahead of its nationwide release on Christmas Day. The James Mangold-directed Bob Dylan biopic, stars Timothée Chalamet as the legendary musical artist.
The exclusive early access screenings in more than 30 Imax locations will commence on Dec. 18. Searchlight says seeing the specialty film in Imax will showcase the film’s groundbreaking visuals and immersive sound, and that the large-format technology will allow audiences to fully engage with the film’s cinematic scope and depth.

A Complete Unknown: IMAX Early Access screenings will be staged at Imax locations in AMC, Regal, Cineplex and Cinemark locations in the following cities — Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle and Washington DC. In Canada, there will be early screenings in Toronto and Montreal. Ticket buyers will be treated to a pre-recorded Q&A with the cast.
In addition to Chalamet, the movie stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie. Written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, it is produced by Fred Berger, Mangold and Alex Heineman alongside Bob Bookman, Peter Jaysen, Alan Gasmerd, Jeff Rosen and Chalamet.
Set in New York City in the summer of 1961 against the cultural upheaval of the times and a vibrant music scene, A Complete Unknown follows an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota who arrives with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. He forges intimate relationships with music icons of Greenwich Village on his meteoric rise, culminating in a groundbreaking and controversial performance that reverberates worldwide.
Earlier this week, the film received the Visionary Tribute at the Gotham Awards for Mangold and Chalamet.
