Tinashe talks new track 'Faded Love,' working with Britney Spears and upcoming album 'Joyride'
Tinashe talks new tracks "Faded Love" and "No Drama," what she learned from working with Britney Spears and her upcoming second album, Joyride.
Tinashe wants her fans to know that she has a plan.
AOL Entertainment chatted backstage with the singer before she took the stage at the launch of Sony's SESSIONS Lost in Music Video Series, for which she created one of her songs in an upcoming video released on March 8, at National Sawdust in Brooklyn. Her video will follow Khalid's, which premiered over the weekend.

During our interview, the singer assured us that her latest releases are part of a larger "rollout plan" ahead of her delayed second album, Joyride.
"I really wanted people to know that this wasn't just one song I was throwing out there to see what was going to happen," Tinashe explained of her planned three-track drop in early 2018. "It's part of a continued rollout plan. It's something we're taking seriously in terms of how we're presenting the content, and I wanted [the music] to be as impactful as possible."
The hard-hitting "No Drama" was released last month, followed by the "Faded Love" drop on Monday. Both tracks back up Tinashe's assertion that she's taking her music seriously. Not that that hasn't always been the case, but her latest project -- with its top-notch production, A-list rap features (Offset and Future) and stunning visuals -- has reignited buzz for Joyride, an album that she says is "definitely" coming.
As for "Faded Love" specifically, the singer explained to us what inspired the song, which premiered with an accompanying vertical music video on Spotify -- perfect for iPhone viewing.
"The song's vibe is just so special," she said. "It’s this muted, almost careless tone. It has this darkness to it, which I love. I was really drawn to those elements and even how the instrumentation with its muted drums. To me, the song really represents that feeling of being indifferent to love."
Tinashe went on to call the added support from Spotify "really awesome," especially coming at a time when the platform rallying behind a track can make or break its success.

Part of Tinashe's incredible appeal is her versatility: She's proven time and again that she isn't afraid of changing up her sound or collaborating with a wide array of (sometimes unexpected) different artists.
"I love as an artist being able to deliver songs that aren't just one sound," she explained. "I enjoy listening to a variety of things, so to be able to create and perform and share that with my audience is important to me."
She's capable delivering glorious Top 40-ready pop (see "Flame," "Superlove" and her "Slumber Party" collab with Britney Spears) just as much as she's able to churn out hip-hop tracks like "No Drama," "Ride of Your Life" and "Company."
An added bonus of letting herself go in so many different directions and work with such a diverse array of talent is that these projects have provided her with career learnings she has come to value immensely as she continued to pave her own path in the music industry.
"It was just such an amazing experience," Tinashe said of working with Britney. "It was mostly just humbling, which was what I really took away from that experience. It was like, 'Whoa, anything can really happen.' You can have these unrealistic seeming dreams that can really happen for you, which is incredible. I would’ve never thought that that could’ve happened."
