Toronto: Julia Roberts To Star In Redo Of Oscar Winning ‘Secret In Their Eyes’
EXCLUSIVE: Here’s an instantly hot Toronto title. Julia Roberts has been set to join Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow in the Billy Ray-directed remake of The Secret In Their Eyes. IM Global is fully financing the film and making the deals worldwide at Toronto, in conjunction with CAA. This has turned the film into a hotly coveted sales title. Roberts is coming off a superb performance in HBO’s The Normal Heart.
Chiwetel Ejiofor was already set for the male lead, a former MI-5 agent who returns to Boston on a joint task force with the FBI. Roberts plays his friend and former partner whose daughter is murdered. The ex-agent can’t get over it and digs up the case years later when he thinks he’s found the guy who got away with it. Shooting begins in L.A. in October, so it’s all happening fast. Mark Johnson is producing. The 2010 Argentinian original won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film, directed by Juan Jose Campanella. Roberts is repped by CAA.
