True story: Steven Spielberg still gets first-day filming jitters

When you’re a Hollywood titan like Steven Spielberg, you can decide to make a film like The Post, a timely portrait of the media’s courageous stand against a deceitful presidential administration — and not only assemble an all-star cast headlined by Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, but also have it in theaters before the year is out. Still, despite his unparalleled industry clout, the director admits that no matter the project he’s undertaking, he still gets anxious before the cameras begin to roll.

“Every day is exciting, and excitement sometimes provokes a nervous energy. And that nervous energy, for me, is my fuel,” the three-time Oscar winner confesses to Yahoo Entertainment’s Kevin Polowy (watch above). Furthermore, Spielberg says that he detects that same sort of jittery excitement in most of his performers when they first work through a scene, including his peerless stars Streep and Hanks, because “every scene is a new experience for all of us.”

Featuring an A-list lineup that also includes Carrie Coon, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Matthew Rhys, Alison Brie, Jesse Plemons, Pat Healy and Michael Stuhlbarg, The Post is currently in limited release and will expand nationwide on Jan. 12.
