Trump claims Russia investigation was 'treason'
Donald Trump called into Hannity on Thursday night, where the president gave his first official interview following Wednesday’s Mueller hearings. Trump was very critical of Mueller’s testimony performance calling it a disaster for Democrats. He then turned his Mueller criticism into a backhanded compliment of Joe Biden when he joked, “The only good thing about Mueller is it made Joe Biden look like a dynamo. So, when you watch Mueller’s performance yesterday, I think probably Biden is the one that asked him to go on.”
Earlier in the week Trump told reporters that he wasn’t going to watch the hearings, but he tweeted throughout both hearings, so host Sean Hannity questioned how much of the hearing the president actually watched. “I watched a little bit at the very beginning and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I ended up watching more than I wanted to. And then I watched the afternoon because, you know, it was such a big crater at the beginning and I said, now I have to watch shifty shift.”
The president was one of 13 million people who tuned in to the hearing. And though the response across news outlets and social media varied politically, while speaking with Hannity, Trump stayed true to his party line. “I will tell you that everybody representing the Republicans I thought was really good and I thought the other side was typically biased but they were stuck with the situation that they couldn’t believe.”
Trump didn’t stop with the Democrats, the president also had some harsh words for some of his adversaries from the intelligence community that weren’t at the hearing. “Comey is a liar and a leaker, and that’s obvious, all you have to do is just follow him along and see what he said to congress. Clapper and Brennan and all of these people, McCabe, these are bad people. My opinion, they are very bad people. They’ve been very bad for the country.”
Trump has previously claimed that the Russia investigation was an attempted coup against his administration, but on Thursday, while speaking with Hannity, he took those comments one step further by saying, “This was treason. This was high crimes. This was everything as bad of a definition as you want to come up with, this should never be allowed to happen to our country again.”
Hannity airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on Fox News.
