Who’s In? Who’s Out? TV’s Major Casting Moves for Fall (and Beyond!)

Your favorite TV shows may look a bit different when they return with their next seasons, thanks to new names on the call sheets and some very conspicuous absences in the opening credits.

For instance, Yellowstone (as you just maybe heard!), Chicago P.D. and 9-1-1: Lone Star will be missing familiar faces when they return from their hiatuses. whereas both Superman & Lois and Grey’s Anatomy have undergone significant shake-ups.

Elsewhere, series such as Chicago Fire, S.W.A.T. and Wednesday have handed out promotions, while Night Court, FBI: International, The Rookie and others are welcoming new members to their respective ensembles.

Accused (Fox, Oct. 1)

Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy), Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy), Danny Pino (Law & Order: SVU), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black), William H. Macy (Shameless), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Debra Winger (The Ranch), Mercedes Ruehl (Power), Christine Ebersole (Bob Hearts Abishola), Matthew James Thomas (Believe), Masked Singer‘s Nick Cannon and Ken Jeong, and Season 1 returnee Michael Chiklis are among the guest stars lined up for Season 2 of the crime anthology.

All American (The CW, 2025)

Daniel Ezra, who since Season 1 has played Spencer James, will not return as a series regular for Season 7 (but is expected to make guest appearances).

And Just Like That… (Max, 2025)

Neither Sara Ramírez (who played Che Diaz) nor Karen Pittman (as Nya Wallace) will be returning for Season 3. ? New cast additions include Rosie O’Donnell, Mehcad Brooks (Law & Order), Jonathan Cake (The Affair) and Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade). ? Sebastiano Pigazzi (Giuseppe) and Dolly Wells (Joy) have been promoted to series regulars.

Andor (Disney+, 2025)

Ben Mendelsohn reportedly will reprise his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story role of Director Krennic in the second/final season.

The Chi (Showtime, return date TBA)

Lynn Whitfield has been promoted to series regular for Season 7, as Alicia.

Chicago Fire (NBC, Sept. 25)

Eamonn Walker, who since Day 1 played Deputy District Chief Wallace Boden, is not returning as a series regular for Season 13. ? Dermot Mulroney (Secret Invasion) will fill the series-regular role of Chief Dom Pascal; Private Practice alumna KaDee Strickland will recur as his estranged wife Monica. ? Jake Lockett (who plays firefighter Sam Carver) and Jocelyn Hudon (Lyla Novak) have been promoted to series regulars.

Chicago Med (NBC, Sept. 25)

Dominic Rains, who since Season 5 has played trauma surgeon Dr. Crockett Marcel, will not be returning for Season 10. ? Sarah Ramos (Parenthood) and Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever) have been added as series regulars, in the respective roles of Dr. Caitlin Lenox and Dr. John Frost.

Chicago P.D. (NBC, Sept. 25)

Tracy Spiridakos, who since Season 4 has played Detective Hailey Upton, will not be returning for Season 12.

Citadel (Prime Video, return date TBA)

Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), Gabriel Leone (Ferrari), Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us), Rahul Kohli (iZombie) and Michael Trucco (Fire Country) will recur during Season 2.

Dark Winds (AMC, 2025)

Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg) will play FBI Special Agent Sylvia Washington in Season 3, while Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher) will play a character named Tom Spenser.

Doctor Who (Disney+, return date TBA)

Andor standout Varada Sethu will play a new companion, alongside Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday, in “Season 2.” Also, Jonah Hauer-King (World on Fire, Eric in 2023’s live-action The Little Mermaid) will play a character who figures into Ruby Sunday’s journey.

FBI (CBS, Oct. 15)

Katherine Renee Kane will exit the role of Tiffany early in Season 7. (READ MORE) ? Lisette Olivera (National Treasure: Edge of History) has joined the cast as BAU agent Syd,

FBI: International (CBS, Oct. 15)

Chicago P.D. alum Jesse Lee Soffer has joined Season 4 in the series regular role of Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell, filling the void left by original cast member Luke Kleintank’s end-of-Season 3 exit as Supervisory Special Agent Scott Forrester. (READ MORE)

Fire Country (Oct. 18, CBS)

Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki will have a three-episode arc — and potentially lead a new spinoff — as SoCaol firefighter Camden Casey. (READ MORE). Also, Leven Rambin (True Detective, Grey’s Anatomy) has joined Season 3 in the recurring guest star role of Audrey, a former fire camp inmate. (READ MORE)

Found (NBC, Oct. 3)

Michael Cassidy (The O.C.) will recur during Season 2 as a grief counselor with controversial ties to Gabi’s past, while Danielle Savre (Station 19) will also recur, in an undisclosed role.

For All Mankind (Apple TV+, return date TBA)

Costa Ronin (The Americans) and Mireille Enos (The Killing) in Season 5 will fill the series regular roles of Lenya, a Soviet politician and former cosmonaut, and Celia Boyd, a member of the Peacekeeper Security Force on Mars, while Tyler Labine (New Amsterdam) will recur as Fred, a Mars Peacekeeper.

Frasier (Paramount+, Sept. 19)

Emmy winner Patricia Heaton has joined the Season 2 cast as Boston bartender Holly, a potential love interest for Frasier. Additionally, Peri Gilpin will stay on as a recurring guest star — with Kelsey Grammer‘s real-life daughter, Greer Grammer, playing Roz’s grown-up daughter Alice. ? Harriet Sansom Harris will reprise her original Frasier role as unscrupulous agent Bebe Glazer, with Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) guesting as her daughter Phoebe. Franchise vets Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert will reprise their roles as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe and Gil Chesterton, in an episode set in Seattle.

FROM (MGM+, Sept. 22)

Robert Joy (CSI: NYJulia) will recur in Season 3 as Henry, “a curmudgeon to whom the years have not been kind,” while Samantha Brown (Y: The Last Man) will play Acosta, an in-over-her-head rookie police officer.

FUBAR (Netflix, return date TBA)

The Matrix‘s Carrie-Anne Moss has joined Season 2 of the action-drama as Greta, a former East German spy who has a passionate history with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Luke Brunner.

Gen V (Prime Video, 2025)

Hamish Linklater will be calling the shots in Season 2 as Cipher, Godolkin University’s “charismatic and charming” new dean.

Ghosts (CBS, Oct. 17)

Mary Holland (Veep) will recur during Season 4 as the Puritan ghost Patience, while Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) will guest-star as the estranged father of Rose McIver’s Samantha.

The Gilded Age (HBO, return date TBA)

Phylicia Rashad will recur in Season 3 as Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland, a woman from a prominent family in Newport with ties dating back to the American Revolution. Jordan Donica will recur as her son, Dr. William Kirkland.

Godfather of Harlem (MGM+, return date TBA)

Erik Paladino (ER, NCIS: LA) will recur during Season 4 as Pino Greco, a fearsome hitman and high-ranking underboss of the Genovese crime family. Additionally, Rome Flynn (How to Get Away With Murder, Chicago Fire) will guest-star as a younger version of Frank Luca, a character played by Denzel Washington in the 2007 movie American Gangster.

Goosebumps (Disney+, return date TBA)

Ana Ortiz (Love, Victor, Ugly Betty) and David Schwimmer (Friends) will star in the second season of what is now an anthology series, as will Sam McCarthy (Dead to Me), Jayden Bartels (Side Hustle), Elijah Cooper (That Girl Lay Lay), Galilea La Salvia (Talia in the Kitchen) and Francesca Noel (Alex).

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, Sept. 26)

With Station 19 now over, Jason George will bring Ben Warren back to Grey’s for Season 21. ? Michael Thomas Grant (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) will recur as James, the hospital’s new, gay chaplain, while Kali Rocha (after a 17-year absence) will scrub back in as Dr. Sydney Heron for multiple episodes. ? Jake Borelli and Midori Francis are no longer series regulars, as Dr. Levi Schmitt and surgical intern Dr. Mika Yasuda.

Heartstopper (Netflix, Oct. 3)

Olivia Colman is not returning for Season 3 as Sarah Nelson. ? Cast additions include Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) and Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan). (READ MORE)

Hijack (Apple TV+, return date TBA)

MCU vet Toby Jones, FBI: International alum Christiane Paul and Dark alum Lisa Vicari all have joined the cast for Season 2.

The Last of Us (HBO, 2025)

Jeffrey Wright will appear as Isaac — the same role he previously played in the video game The Last Us Part II — in Season 2 of the dystopian drama. Other Season 2 additions include Danny Ramirez (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Ariela Barer (Runaways), Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The 100) and Spencer Lord (Heartland, Family Law). Law & Order (NBC, Oct. 3)

ER alum Maura Tierney is joining the Season 24 cast in the series regular role of a new lieutenant, filling the void left by original revival cast member Camryn Manheim’s exit as L. Dixon.

Law & Order: SVU (NBC, Oct. 3)

Kevin Kane has been promoted to series regular for Season 24, as Det. Bruno.

The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix, return date TBA)

Wolé Parks (Superman & Lois), Michael Irby (Mayans MC) and Maisie Klompus (Good Trouble) will fill recurring roles in Season 3.

Lioness fka Special Ops: Lioness (Paramount+, return date TBA)

Genesis Rodriguez (The Umbrella Academy) has joined the Season 2 cast as Captain Josephina “Josie” Carillo, a fierce and dedicated helicopter pilot. Also, Thad Luckinbill has been promoted to series regular for Season 2, as CIA Officer Kyle.

Mayfair Witches (AMC, return date TBA)

Recurring in Season 2 are Callan McAuliffe (The Walking Dead) as Abel Mayfair, Franka Potente (Titans) as Annamieke and Ian Pirie (Miss Scarlet & the Duke) as Ian Mayfair.

Miss Scarlet (PBS, 2025)

Stuart Martin, who played William “The Duke” Wellington for the first four seasons, will not be back for season 5 (precipitating the title change from Miss Scarlet & the Duke). To fill the void, Tom Durant Pritchard, whose TV credits include Feel Good and This Is Going to Hurt, has joined the PBS Masterpiece series as Alexander Blake, a handsome former soldier and respected detective inspector.

The Morning Show (Apple TV+, return date TBA)

Julianna Margulies will not be returning for Season 4, as Laura Peterson. ? Cast additions include Oscar winner Jeremy Irons as Martin Levy, the father of Jennifer Aniston’s Alex, and Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose) as Celine Dumont, a savvy operator from a storied European family. Additionally, William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) will play Ben, the network’s self-assured and innovative Head of Sports; Rachel Marsh (Unstable) will recur as Alex’s assistant, Remy; John Hoogenakker (Jack Ryan) will recur as an FBI agent named Andy; and Boyd Holbrook (Justified: City Primeval) will play Brodie, a Joe Rogan-like podcaster.

The Night Agent (Netflix, return date TBA)

Season 2 additions include Amanda Warren (East New York) as a veteran of the Night Action program who trains and oversees agents (including noob Peter Sutherland), plus Brittany Snow (American Dreams), Teddy Sears (The Flash), Arienne Mandi (The L Word: Generation Q), Louis Herthum (The Peripheral), Berto Colon (Power Book II: Ghost), Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries), Keon Alexander (The Expanse), Navid Negahban (Homeland) and Rob Heaps (Imposters). (READ MORE)

Night Court (NBC, Nov. 19)

India de Beaufort, who since Season 1 played Olivia, is leaving after two seasons. To fill the void, Wendie Malick — who guest-starred in the previous two seasons — is joining the Season 3 cast as a series regular, as Dan’s terrifying ex Julianne Walters aka the court’s new prosecutor.

9-1-1: Lone Star (Fox, Sept. 23)

Sierra McClain, who had co-starred in all four seasons as 9-1-1 operator Grace, will not be returning for Season 5. ? Jackson Pace has been promoted to series regular as Judd’s estranged son, Wyatt.

Nine Perfect Strangers (Hulu, return date TBA)

Season 2 cast additions include Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Mark Strong (Low Winter Sun) and Lena Olin (Alias).

1923 (Paramount+, return date TBA)

Dexter alum Jennifer Carpenter will recur in Season 2 as Mamie Fossett, a highly capable U.S. Deputy Marshall, and Janet Montgomery (New Amsterdam) will recur as Hillary, “a thoughtful woman who does not want to see injustice go unpunished.”

One Piece (Netflix, return date TBA)

Callum Kerr (Monarch, Hollyoaks) will play Smoker, whose introduction was teased at the end of Season 1. Other Season 2 additions include Baroque Works agents played by David Dastmalchian (MacGyver), Jazzara Jaslyn (Lioness), Camrus Johnson (Batwoman) and Daniel Lasker (Raised by Wolves).

Only Murders in the Building (Hulu, Aug. 27)

Molly Shannon (SNL) will recur as a high-powered L.A. businesswoman; Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Eva Longoria will play themselves playing Charles, Oliver and Mabel in a movie about the podcast; and Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, Desmin Borges (You’re the Worst), Catherine Cohen (The Twist…? She’s Gorgeous), Jin Ha (Pachinko), Richard Kind (Curb Your Enthusiasm), stage actress Daphne Rubin-Vega, Siena Werber (Brand New Cherry Flavor) and Lilian Rebelo will fill other roles. ? Jesse Williams will not be back as Tobert.

Outer Banks (Netflix, return date TBA)

Recurring in Season 4 are J. Anthony Crane (Billions), Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live), Brianna Brown (Dynasty), Rigo Sanchez (Animal Kingdom) and Mia Challis (FBI: International).

Peacemaker (Max, second half of 2025)

New for Season 2 are Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., the dad of the Suicide Squad films’ late Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman); Sol Rodriguez (Star Trek: Picard) as Sasha Bordeaux (a Batman ally in the DC comics); and David Denman (The Office) in an undisclosed role.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+, return date TBA)

Sandra Bernhard (Roseanne), Kristen Schaal (What We Do in the Shadows) and Margaret Cho (All-American Girl) will play the Gray Sisters, Anger, Tempest and Wasp, in Season 2. Additionally, Daniel Diemer (The Midnight Club) will portray Tyson, a cyclops and Percy’s half-brother.

Poker Face (Peacock, return date TBA)

The first announced Season 2 guest stars are Katie Holmes, Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent) and Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales).

Power Book III: Raising Kanan (Starz, return date TBA)

Chris Redd (SNL, Kenan) and rapper Pardison Fontaine have joined the Season 4 cast, playing a “secret keeper” and a talented rapper serving a prison sentence, respectively.

P-Valley (Starz, return date TBA)

Gail Bean (who plays Roulette), Bertram Williams Jr (Woddy) and Thomas Q. Jones (Mane) have all been promoted to series regulars for Season 3.

Reacher (Prime Video, early 2025)

New for Season 3 (which is based on the novel Persuader) are Anthony Michael Hall as Zachary Beck, Sonya Cassidy (Lodge 49) as DEA agent Susan Duffy, Brian Tee (Chicago Med) as a Lieutenant Colonel whom Reacher investigated 10 years ago, Johnny Berchtold (Tiny Beautiful Things) as Richard Beck, Roberto Montesinos (9-1-1: Lone Star) as DEA agent Guillermo Villanueva, Daniel David Stewart (For All Mankind) as DEA agent Steven Elliot, and Olivier “The Dutch Giant” Richters as Zachary Beck’s bodyguard.

The Rookie (ABC, 2025)

Tru Valentino, who joined the show in Season 4 as Officer Aaron Thorsen, will not be returning as a series regular in Season 7. (READ MORE) ? Recurring in Season 7 are Deric Augustine (All American, Godfather of Harlem) as Miles, a Texas transfer who despite having two years under his belt, will be a rookie at the LAPD, and Patrick Keleher as Seth, another rookie who sure seems like the ideal police officer.

The Sandman (Netflix, return date TBA)

New for Season 2 are Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones) as Puck, Ann Skelly (The Nevers) as Nuala, Douglas Booth (AMC+’s That Dirty Black Bag) as Clurucan, Indya Moore (Pose) as Wanda, Ruairi O’Connor (The Morning Show) as Orpheus, Freddie Fox (The Great) as Loki, Clive Russell (Ripper Street) as Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain (The Witcher: Blood Origin) as Thor, Steve Coogan (I’m Alan Partridge) voicing the canine Barnabas, Esme Creed-Miles (Hanna) as Delirium, Adrian Lester (Primary Colors) as Destiny and Barry Sloane (Revenge) as The Prodigal.

Saturday Night Live (NBC, return date TBA)

Punkie Johnson, has been part of the cast since Season 46, announced that she won’t be returning for Season 50 — amid reports that Maya Rudolph will return this fall as presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Molly Kearney similarly has announced they’re leaving the show after two seasons.

School Spirits (Paramount+, return date TBA)

Season 2 cast additions include Jess Gabor (Shameless) as Janet Hamilton, Zack Calderon (The Wilds) as Diego Herrera, Miles Elliot (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Yuri and Cihang Ma as Quin.

Severance (Apple TV+, Jan. 17)

New for Season 2 are Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), John Noble (Fringe), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Merritt Wever (Unbelievable), Bob Balaban (The Chair), Robby Benson (American Dreams), ólafur Darri ólafsson (The MissingNOS4A2) and relative newcomer Stefano Carranante. The Sex Lives of College Girls (Max, return date TBA)

Reneé Rapp, who plays Leighton, will appear in a handful of Season 3 episodes before departing. ? Mia Rodgers will fill the series regular role of Taylor, a first-year international student at Essex College. Additionally, Ghosts star Rebecca Wisocky will recur as a professor at Essex College, and Nabeel Muscatwalla (Good Trouble) will recur as Arvind, a student at Essex.

Silo (Apple TV+, Nov. 15)

Steve Zahn (The White Lotus Season 1, The Righteous Gemstones) has joined the Season 2 cast as Solo, a key character from the back half of the first book in Hugh Howey’s WoolShift and Dust trilogy.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount+, 2025)

Cillian O’Sullivan (The BlacklistChicago P.D.) will recur in Season 3 as the legacy character Dr. Roger Korby, first portrayed by Michael Strong in Star Trek: The Original Series.

Squid Game (Netflix, Dec. 26)

Joining return cast members Lee Jung-jae (as protagonist Seong Gi-hun), Lee Byung-Hun (a the Front Man), Wi Ha-jun (as Hwang Jun-ho) and Gong Yoo (the game’s recruiter) are Yim Si-Wan (of the South Korean boyband ZE:A), Kang Ha-Neul (South Korea’s Keoteunkol), Park Sung-Hoon (The Glory), Yang Dong-Geun (The Forbidden Marriage), Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home), Jo Yu-ri (formerly of the South Korean-Japanese girl group Iz*One), theater/musical vet Kang Ae-sim, Lee David (from Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk’s film The Fortress), Lee Jin-uk (from Hwang’s Miss Granny), singer Choi Seung-hyun, Won Ji-an (from Season 1 of the Netflix series D.P.) and newcomer Roh Jae-won.

Stranger Things (Netflix, 2025)

New for the fifth and final season are Linda Hamilton, Nell Fisher (My Life Is Murder), Alex Breaux (Joe Pickett) and newbie Jake Connelly. (READ MORE)

Superman & Lois (The CW, Oct. 17)

The fourth and final season will introduce Douglas Smith (Big Love, Big Little Lies) as Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen. Additionally, Kung Fu vet Yvonne Chapman will fill the recurring role of Lex Luthor’s “intelligent, cunning, and loyal” ally, Amanda McCoy. ? The only series regulars for Season 4 are Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch in the title roles, plus Alex Garfin as Jordan, Michael Bishop as Jonathan and Michael Cudlitz as Lex.

S.W.A.T. (CBS, Oct. 18)

Annie Ilonzeh (Chicago Fire) will fill the recurring Season 8 role of Devin Gamble, 20-Squad’s newest recruit. ? Niko Pepaj has been promoted to series regular status, as Alfaro.

Tracker (CBS, Oct. 13)

Robin Weigert, who co-starred as Teddi Bruin in Season 1, will not return as a series regular for Season 2.  (READ MORE)

Tulsa King (Paramount+, Sept. 15)

Warrior alum Rich Ting will recur in Season 2 as Jackie Ming, a quiet but ruthless man.

The Walking Dead: Dead City (AMC, 2025)

Sons of Anarchy vet Kim Coates will fill a series-regular Season 2 role. Other additions include Animal Kingdom vet Jake Weary, Atypical’s Keir Gilchrist, Poker Face’s Dascha Polanco and Law & Order: SVU judge Pooya Mohseni.

Wednesday (Netflix, return date TBA)

Season 2 additions include Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) as Barry Dort, Billie Piper (Doctor Who) as Capri and Thandiwe Newton (Westworld) as Dr. Fairburn, plus Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime). ? Percy Hynes White and Naomi J. Ogawa, both of whom were series regulars in Season 1, will not be back. ? Jamie McShane will appear in Season 2, but has been moved from series regular to guest star. Conversely, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who plays Galpin’s deputy Ritchie Santiago, has been promoted to series regular.

The White Lotus (HBO, return date TBA)

Natasha Rothwell will be reprising her Season 1 role as spa manager Belinda in the upcoming, Thailand-set third season. ? New for Season 3 of the anthology series are Parker Posey (Lost in Space), Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Walton Goggins (Justified) and… many others.

Will Trent (ABC, 2025)

Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) has joined the Season 3 cast as Marion Alba, a charismatic, confident Assistant District Attorney new to Atlanta. (READ MORE)

XO, Kitty (Netflix, return date TBA)

Season 2 has added Audrey Huynh (We Bare Bears) as a series regular, while Sasha Bhasin and Joshua Lee (Gangnam Project) will fill recurring roles.

Yellowstone (Paramount Network, Nov. 10)

It is now double-secret official that Kevin Costner will not be returning to the role of John Dutton, ever.
