Twenty One Pilots release album 'Clancy' featuring Columbus sights in 'Lavish' video
A 'new way of living' is in the heart of the Midwest. Twenty One Pilots kick off "The Clancy Tour" with a sold-out performance in Columbus and a music video showcasing several locations around Ohio.
The Columbus-based duo released the new music video "Lavish" that pays ode to the Midwest by showcasing several known businesses in a drive across the state. They are to play Friday night at the Newport Music Hall.
Fans can expect to hear all 13 tracks on the "Clancy" album, including song "Next Semester" released two months ago, as the Ohio natives return to the center stage of alternative music after three years.
The end of the Blurry face saga
The origin of the famous alternative band begins in the early 2000s with members Tyler Jospeh, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih performing at venues around Columbus. Now, a decade and seven albums later, the duo, consisting of only Jospeh and Josh Dunn, have went on to a become grammy-award winning band, earning 10 No. 1 hits on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart, including "Stressed Out" and "Heathens."
The new album "Clancy" concludes a story that began with "Blurryface" in 2015 and continued with "Trench" in 2018. Mapping the growth the band has made over the years, "Clancy" represents the protagonist in the ongoing narrative that began with "Blurryface" as the antagonist.
The new album is expected to represent an encounter between the two characters and signify a new chapter in the duo's career as they prepare for their 59-day world tour.
The highlights of the Midwest
The music video "Lavish" uses signs from buildings across Ohio as lyrics to the song about a new 'lavish' way of living. Here, the duo honor their midwestern roots as a band that started out in Columbus.
Featuring Lashish the Greek, Squeeks Bar and Grill, Korean Hot Pot, Lavash Cafe, Friendship Kitchen and others, the song brings fans to a variety of Columbus locations with lyrics that welcomes viewers "to the style you haven't seen in a while."
The pair also drives through Sancus Blvd, Tanger Outlets, Northpointe Dance Academy in a limousine highlighting places well known to Ohio residents.
After Friday's show at Newport, Twenty One Pilots will begin their tour in Colorado in August. They will return to Columbus for three nights at Nationwide Arena on Oct. 4-6.
