Twitter is calling latest 'Jeopardy!' champion the 'most annoying contestant ever' because of this weird quirk
As LeVar Burton’s guest-hosting week continues on Jeopardy!, so does the six-game winning streak of Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, Conn. And while viewers on social media are clearly impressed with Amodio’s dominant gameplay skills, there’s something else that keeps grabbing their attention. As this person tweeted, “I am impressed with Matt on Jeopardy but he uses 'What’s' regardless of if the answer is a thing or a person — for a few nights now. Shouldn’t a person always be 'who'?!?”
Are we seeing another Ken Jennings in the making? Go Matt!!!!

Matt is the best player in years. He could go on a Top 5 all-time run. #jeopardy #cleveland @JeopardyWagers @Jeopardy

I am impressed with Matt on @Jeopardy but he uses “What’s” regardless of if the answer is a thing or a person — for a few nights know. Shouldn’t a person always be “who”?!? #mypettyirritants #jeopardy

And it’s true. When the answer is a person’s name like, say, Anna Faris, Jim Parsons or John Cleese as we saw on Wednesday’s episode, Amodio said, “What’s Faris,” “what’s Parsons,” and “what’s Cleese.” And this quirk of Amodio’s has clearly struck a nerve with viewers, with some even going so far as to wonder if he is “the most annoying contestant ever.”
Can someone PLEASE tell Matt it’s not “what” when referring to a person? #Jeopardy

Matt back at it again with the "what" instead of "who" for questions in reference to people#Jeopardy

Is Matt the most annoying contestant ever? Is it so hard to say “who is”? or “make it a true daily double”? #Jeopardy

A: The most annoying #Jeopardy champion ever.
Q: WHAT'S Matt?— Rich??Evans (@_neppie_) July 28, 2021
Matt knows a lot of stuff but not how to use the word “who”. #jeopardy!

Matt seems like a nice guy, but he keeps saying “What’s” instead of “What is” or “Who is” or “What are,” and it’s driving me crazy. Congrats to him, though.#Jeopardy#HireLeVarBurton

But some fans are actually digging Amodio’s style because, simply, he gets his answers right. And they just seem excited to have such an impressive champion back in the game for the first time in a while. And as one viewer wisely pointed out, “Y'all better get used to and get over hearing 'What's' because I think Matt's going to be on Jeopardy! for a while. And I'm here for it.”
Digging #Jeopardy Matt and don't mind that he says "what" instead of "who" because he gets his answers right.

Y'all better get used to and get over hearing "What's" because I think Matt's going to be on #Jeopardy for a while. And I'm here for it.

Reading the #jeopardy trend is making me laugh. I’m calling him What’s Matt from now on...
