Twitter notes the eery similarities between the Kavanaugh hearing and 'The Handmaid's Tale'
Christine Blasey Ford sat before the Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, her first chance to publicly share her account of the allegation she’s claimed against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The professor has accused the judge of sexual assault in an incident she says occurred more than 30 years ago, when they were both in high school.
As Ford began her testimony, Twitter lit up with live responses of the hearing. Quickly, many users saw parallels in the hearing and the hit Hulu show The Handmaid’s Tale, the dystopian series that focuses on women losing their basic rights.
Several photos from the hearing went viral for their eery similarity to a scene from the most recent season, Season 2. Much like an episode in which Yvonne Strahovski’s character, Serena Joy, pleads with the government for the right to read the Bible, Ford also sat before a group of white men, who listened to her testimony.
Many users agreed, shocked by the revelation.

Others drew comparisons to one of the series key characters, Aunt Lydia. Many started interchanging Aunt Lydia with Rachel Mitchell, the prosecutor hired by the Republicans to question both Ford and Kavanaugh.

I've gotta admit, unveiling this new casting of Aunt Lydia in the middle of these hearings was an inspired choice.

Aunt Lydia's back.

It's all gonna be okay, you guys. Aunt Lydia will now take over the questioning.

In general, many Twitter users couldn’t get past the Gilead similarities.
The whole spectacle is deeply unsettling and evokes those scenes from The Handmaid’s Tale when the women have to speak before the men of Gilead.

LMFAO! When y’all compare things to the Handmaids tale I laugh because sis wrote the book off of REAL LIFE THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPEN THROUGH HISTORY. 😂 so stop acting like that made up world is somehow just horrible. We live in it. We live in Gilead. https://t.co/iPFUoyyGYE

I am so afraid that the #BlueWave won't happen, and we will be stuck living in the upside down Handmaid's Tale type future forever. #GOPHypocrites have successfully brainwashed their base into thinking that their methods are in their best interest, when in fact it is not. 🙄

Remember when the Handmaid’s Tale was fictional? #KavanaughHearings
