Tyrese Gibson vows to quit 'Fast and Furious' franchise over feud with the Rock
The Fast and Furious feud is officially in overdrive. On Wednesday, Tyrese Gibson threatened to quit the hugely successful franchise because of his dramatic spat with Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.
We aren’t fully sure what Gibson’s latest beef is, as his new post was rambling and there were several typos, but it’s clear that “candy ass b****” Johnson is the main point of contention. He called the superstar several other names (“clown” and “selfish”) and implied that the super beefed-up Johnson uses performance-enhancing drugs.
“Hello world………. hello loyal fans and loved ones from OUR fast universe…….. I’m sorry to announce that if Dewayne is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce,” wrote Gibson, misspelling both the name of the character he plays, Roman Pearce, and Johnson’s real name. “You mess with family and my daughters survival I mess with yours.”
Alongside the caption of the co-stars, photographed with Vin Diesel, Gibson continued his rant. “Close your eyes dude you’re a ‘Clown,’” Gibson wrote, adding, “#CandyAssBitchMade,” which is a version of a barb they keep hurling back and forth. (Johnson called unnamed F8 co-stars “candy a**es” in August 2016. Last month, Johnson said, “Candy a**es need not apply,” when clapping back at Gibson and talking about the upcoming F&F spin-off around Johnson’s character, Luke Hobbs.)
Gibson ended his Insta rant with apparent digs about Johnson’s body-building, writing, “All my real one…. Men on integrity… my real ones out here stand UP. Folks that GP to the gym and get big naturally #NoJuice #NoOJspin off huh? Spin off these nuts selfish champ…… pause notice who’s got his arms around my shoulder and who’s standing alone – #OurChildrenMatter.”
The drama between the men started on set and has spilled off. One issue is the noted spin-off, featuring Johnson and Jason Statham, which is set for a 2019 release. That film is causing Fast 9‘s release date to be delayed. Universal Studios said the main franchise film won’t come out until 2020.
Tyrese mentions that the spinoff is hurting his family’s finances. The timing is notable because he’s currently in an epic custody battle with his ex-wife, Norma, over their daughter, Shayla. His former wife is trying to get a permanent restraining order against him over allegations of child abuse. Over the weekend, Tyrese was seen spending time with their daughter, under the supervision of a court-appointed monitor, for the first time since the battle began.
The Rock has not yet responded to Tyrese’s latest tirade, but he will. Oh, he will. And a new version of that candy-a** hashtag will likely be born.
