Uncharted 2 Movie Now in Development, Confirms Sony
Sony Pictures has officially confirmed the existence of Uncharted 2.
During the studio’s presentation at the 2024 CineEurope trade show in Barcelona on Monday, it announced a slate of upcoming films, with Uncharted 2 among them.
Based on publisher Sony and developer Naughty Dog’s hit video game series Uncharted, the 2022 first film follows Tom Holland’s cocky thief Nathan Drake as he sets off on a globe-trotting tour with grizzled sidekick Sully (Mark Wahlberg) in tow.
There were no other details contained in the announcement, but a sequel may not come as a shock given the previous film’s box office success. After grossing $407 million globally, it’s currently the fifth-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time.
It’s not confirmed yet whether both Holland and Wahlberg will return. They may play two of the video game’s main characters, but one Uncharted title featured an entirely different pair of leads.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which released in 2017, followed treasure-hunter Chloe Frazer and ex-mercenary Nadine Ross as they set out to find the Tusk of Ganesh in India’s Western Ghats mountain range.
Elsewhere in the 2024 CineEurope trade show, Sony Pictures referenced Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel 28 Years Later featuring Cillian Murphy, Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun starring Jenna Ortega, and Sam Mendes’ upcoming four films about all members of the Beatles. There’s a rumor The Beatles biopic has cast its Fab Four.
