UND to hold green-out for Friday's game against Minnesota
Oct. 19—GRAND FORKS — It will be a green-out Friday.
UND is asking fans to wear green for the series opener between the No. 5 Fighting Hawks and No. 1 Minnesota in Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m.
UND players are expected to wear green on the ice instead of their usual white home jerseys.
"It's a green-out," said Jody Hodgson, Ralph Engelstad Arena's general manager. "The team is going to wear green on the ice and we're encouraging our fans to wear green in the stands."
Hodgson said it's still possible to get tickets to this weekend's games.
"There's really no such thing as a sell out these days with the secondary market," Hodgson said. "There are re-sale tickets available on Ticketmaster. There are some season-ticket holders who are farming or traveling or otherwise unable to attend."
Hodgson said re-sale tickets on Ticketmaster are verified. There are a little more than 300 available each night.
Tony Hrkac, the 1987 Hobey Baker Award winner, will skate 'One More Shift' before Saturday's series finale at 6:07 p.m.
He'll be introduced alongside the team during starting lineups and skate a couple of laps inside UND's zone.
Hrkac led UND to its fifth of eight NCAA national titles in 1987, tallying 116 points. That still stands as the NCAA record for points in a season.
Hrkac will attend both games.
"We're excited about that," Hodgson said.
Hrkac will be the sixth former UND player to skate 'One More Shift,' joining Jim Archibald, Brandon Bochenski, Dave Christian, Ed Belfour and Matt Greene.
Minnesota did not practice in Grand Forks on Thursday.
Instead, the Gophers decided to stop in Alexandria, Minn., on their way to Grand Forks and skate at Runestone Community Center.
Under coach Bob Motzko, the Gophers have often skated at different rinks around the state.
