The Lipstick Lounge in Nashville made USA TODAY’s list of best bars in the country.

The USA TODAY Bars of the Year 2024 list, released today, features 27 bars from dives to high-end cocktail bars.

"Honestly, I giggled like a giddy child," said Christa Suppan, who co-owns the East Nashville bar with Jonda Valentine. "It gets cumbersome going into work every day not knowing if you're making a difference, but any time you hear 'thank you' and that people are happy you're here ― and to have someone say you've been nominated for Bars of the Year? What an honor."

USA TODAY Network food journalists live and work in states across the country. They know their communities, and they pooled their expertise to select the list, which includes the places they spend their time and recommend to readers and friends.

The Lipstick Lounge was chosen because of its great drinks, strong pours and welcoming, come-as-you-are vibe. It's known in Nashville as a haven for the LGBTQ+ community, but the owners say it's simply "a bar for humans."

"We want people to have a good time and come back again and see us, which is why we keep it as affordable as we can," Suppan said. "We're a safe space, so we want people to come back one, two, maybe even three times a week."
