Variety to Host Exclusive Press Conference at Texas Film Awards
Actors Danny Trejo and Fred Williamson, and special effects makeup gurus and actors Tom Savini and Greg Nicotero will be among the cast from the 1996 hit “From Dusk Till Dawn” to join writer/director Robert Rodriguez, above, in accepting the 2014 Star of Texas Award at the Austin Film Society’s Texas Film Awards.
As part of the awards festivities, Variety will host an exclusive press conference March 6, the morning of the Texas Film Awards that will be moderated by executive editor Steven Gaydos.
The press conference will feature honorees, presenters and guests including Robert Rodriguez, Richard Linklater, Amber Heard, Fred Williamson, Luke Wilson and the Texas Film Awards Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Louis Black.
“From Dusk Till Dawn” joins such former Star of Texas honorees as “Dazed and Confused,” “Rio Bravo” and “The Last Picture Show.” The award is presented each year to an iconic Texas film, and has previously been awarded to pics such as “Dazed and Confused,” “Rio Bravo” and “The Last Picture Show.”
A special screening of the pic will take place on March 5.
Joining the 2014 Texas Film Awards line up is Academy Award Winning writer and director/actor Billy Bob Thornton, who will be presenting Amber Heard with a Rising Star Award. Thornton, a part-time Texas resident, stars alongside Heard in the upcoming film “London Fields.”
