Video Premiere: ‘X Factor’ Couple Alex & Sierra Unveil New Version of ‘Toxic’
It’s hard to believe that it has been almost three years since the cutest couple on the television talent show circuit, Alex & Sierra, charmed their way into America’s hearts with their sultry X Factor USA audition of Britney Spears’s “Toxic.” The folk-pop duo went on to win the series’ third season. And now, after touring with Andy Grammer and releasing the debut album It’s About Us, Alex & Sierra are coming full-circle with a long-awaited new release, cleverly named As Seen on TV. The EP will feature three originals plus five new covers of songs from the twosome’s X Factor days, including the tune that started it all for them — “Toxic,” of course. Today, Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks is excited to exclusively premiere a new music video for their famous remake.
“The [EP] title is a playful tribute to how most people know us. The album is a nice way to bring our fans with us as we move forward,” Alex Kinsey says of As Seen on TV. “We’ve grown a lot in the last few years.”
“’Toxic’ is one of those songs that we’ve sung countless times but will never get old, because it was the catalyst of our musical journey together. It will always be really special to us and we’re over the moon to finally share a full version with the world,” Sierra Deaton tells Yahoo, adding, “We wanted this video to reflect our interpretation of the song, which is quite darker than the original performance. We knew we wanted something a little odd to happen throughout. There’s also dancing. Yes. Dancing. Relationships can be a lot like dancing; there are twists and turns, it can move slow, it can move fast, it can be chaotic, it can be romantic, you can be close, you can be far… and all the while, be loving it. So we thought that a video of us dancing, interspersed with us performing while a strange dark growth spreads on our bodies, could describe a poisonous couple perfectly.”
As Seen on TV comes out Sept. 30, and is available for pre-order this Friday, Aug. 5. In the meantime, check out a vintage interview below, from when Alex & Sierra visited Yahoo Music shortly after their X Factor victory.
