The View’s Sunny Hostin Reacts to Trump Rally Calling Puerto Rico ‘Garbage,’ Tells Trump the Real ‘Trash’ Is ‘You’
The View co-host Sunny Hostin had a few things to say about one of the incendiary speakers at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s Sunday-night campaign rally at Madison Square Garden.
During said rally, Tony Hinchcliffe — “a touring stand up comedian based out of Los Angeles,” per his bio, and “host of the popular live podcast Kill Tony” — remarked, “There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

Hinchcliffe added, “And these Latinos, they love making babies too. Just know that. They do. There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They come inside. Just like they did to our country.”
The morning after Henchfliffe’s “set,” Hostin as co-host of The View announced to the camera, “This Puerto Rican has something to say about the island that I love, where my family is from. Puerto Rico is trash…? We are Americans, Donald Trump.”
“We voluntarily serve disproportionately high in military, while you have bone spurs,” Hostin continued, alluding to Trump’s infamous get-out-of-Vietnam-free card.
“And we vote,” she stressed, noting how, to cite one Battleground state, “Pennsylvania is home to almost a half a million Puerto Ricans.” Hostin added that fellow Puerto Ricans Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Bad Bunny, Luis Fonsi and Marc Anthony have, combined, “over 345 million followers on Instagram,” whereas the “size”-focused Trump has “about 26 million.”
“We don’t like what was said about Puerto Rico,” Hostin said, “and we know how to take the trash out… trash that has been collecting since 2016. And that’s you, Donald Trump.”
In closing, Hostin said, “My fellow Puerto Ricans, trash collection day is November 5, 2024” aka Election Day. “Don’t forget it.”
Hinchcliffe — specifically in response to Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez condemning his set after meeting up to play Madden on Twitch — said on X, “These people have no sense of humor,” adding that it’s “wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his ‘busy schedule’ to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist.
“I love Puerto Rico and vacation there,” the comedian contended. “I made fun of everyone… watch the whole set.”
Even so, the Trump campaign was quick to distance itself from Hinchcliffe’s lazy, patently racist material, saying in a statement, “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”
