“The View”'s Whoopi Goldberg apologizes for telling J.D. Vance to 'shut up' about Taylor Swift: 'That was very rude'
"The reason I apologized is because I hate when people tell me, pundits tell me, to shut up," Goldberg clarified.
Whoopi Goldberg, who once famously told Meghan McCain, "Girl, please stop talking" on The View, has retracted another stern command for J.D. Vance to "shut up" about matters related to Taylor Swift.
On Thursday's episode of the talk show, the Oscar-winning View moderator introduced a topic about Swift's endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and how the move "has upset many snowflakes" like Vance, she said.
The show then played a clip of Vance saying that most voters aren't "influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans," especially because he thinks that rising inflation costs don't impact Swift on a day-to-day level.
"You don't know what affects her, you don't know about her money. Shut up, J.D." Goldberg said, looking to the camera as the clip ended. She then caught herself and backtracked on the edict, adding: "When we come back, we're going to talk more about this. I'm sorry, that was very rude. Stop talking, J.D."

"The reason I apologized is because I hate when people tell me, pundits tell me, to shut up. It's not a nice thing to say. I do take it back, but the implication is hush," she said, holding her finger to her face.
Cohost Joy Behar then speculated on why Swift's endorsement of Harris triggered so many Republicans.

"Because we have one of the biggest stars in the world on the democratic side," she said, before jabbing actor Scott Baio's support for Trump. "They have Chachi!"
Shortly after Tuesday night's presidential debate, Swift posted an impassioned Instagram note in which she announced her endorsement for Harris — and also addressed Trump previously sharing AI-generated images that falsely depicted Swift and her fans supporting his campaign.
"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country," Swift wrote in the post, which also included a photo of herself with her cat, Benjamin Button. "Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth."
