Viewers mortified by guinea pig meal on premiere of ‘Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted’
On the premiere of Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted, the celebrity chef travelled to Peru’s Sacred Valley to pig out on some local cuisine. But viewers not all the viewers were thrilled when part of that cuisine included roast guinea pig.
Guinea pigs, or cuyes as they are known as in Peru, are a common source of food, particularly in the higher elevations of the Andes Mountains. As Ramsay showed in his new series, families keep the friendly rodents in their homes until the time comes to harvest them.
In the episode viewers saw living guinea pigs, skinned guinea pigs, and roasted guinea pigs. For some it was too much, and they took to Twitter to voice their displeasure.
I realize people eat different things all over the world, they have to due to region, economics, etc. But being a guinea pig owner and lover I can’t watch Gordon Ramsey’s new show. 😢 those poor sweet pigs.

Ramsay ultimately opted to eat the loin portion of the guinea pig. He said it was “pretty good, like a suckling pig.”
