'The Voice' coaches round out their teams with surprising choices
The Voice Battle Rounds ended with some solid performances — and some surprising decisions. Team Blake contestants Adam Cunningham and Natalie Stovall faced off in the first battle of the night, and Natalie had a bit of a head start. Not only did Natalie have a Top 40 country radio hit; she has played with Blake Shelton’s special advisors. “I actually got to play with Rascal Flatts last December. I got to play fiddle and sing background,” Natalie said, adding, “And now I’m getting advice from them!”
Unfortunately, the only coach with a steal left was Blake, so when he picked Adam as the winner, nobody was able to get Natalie on their team — although Miley Cyrus really wanted to add the country singer to her lineup. “If I had a steal, I would’ve stolen her,” Miley told Blake. “That one hurt. That one hurt my soul.”
Natalie wasn’t the only person with some prior success. Ignatious Carmouche won last year’s Voice on Snapchat competition. When he took on Team JHud member Eric Lyn, it left Jennifer Hudson with a difficult decision. “I think I’m sick. Blake, please help me,” Jennifer said to her fellow coach. But despite Ignatious’s past success, Jennifer went with Eric.

With one battle left — and Blake with one steal left — it was obvious there wasn’t going to be a loser between Team Miley members Ashland Craft and Megan Rose. Blake was lucky because the ladies impressed everyone with their performance of the Waylon Jennings classic “Good Hearted Woman.” So when Miley chose Ashland to stay on her team, it was not a surprise when Blake swooped in and stole Megan. But if you ask Megan, she’s always known she would end up on Team Blake. “I was at a show when you performed in San Francisco,” Megan told Blake. “And I took a picture and I said, ‘#myfuturecoachonthevoice #thatsapromise.'”
