'The Voice' recap: Kelly Clarkson gets sweet revenge on Blake Shelton with epic block
Spoiler alert: This story contains details about Monday's episode of "The Voice."
No one was more excited for Kelly Clarkson to use her block than John Legend.
"So, you’re the only one with a block left. Do you have a strategy?" Legend asked Clarkson Monday during the third night of Blind Auditions.
The "American Idol" alum pointed toward her nemesis, Blake Shelton, saying, "I hope it goes toward him." She said the last block of the competition made her "feel powerful."
Clarkson got her wish, but the end result probably wasn't what she was hoping for.
Last week on 'The Voice': Blake Shelton throws epic temper tantrum after losing four-chair turn
Marybeth Byrd, 18, wowed all the coaches with her rendition of Bonnie Raitt & John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery." Clarkson, Legend and Gwen Stefani all turned.
"I saw her block me this time," Shelton said before reluctantly hitting his button. He was right – Clarkson did block him, returning the favor for Shelton's block last week.
"I only have one block this entire competition and I chose to block him just in case you were going to go with him," Clarkson said. Shelton quipped, "Do you really want a coach that takes opportunities away from you?"
In the end, Byrd went with Legend, who said that the Arkansas native is "going to be one of the top contestants this season." He exclaimed, "Kelly blocked Blake just for me!"
"That was a waste," Clarkson added.

Shelton got his revenge by mysteriously playing his girlfriend's track "Don't Speak" every time Clarkson tried to talk. But, in typical Shelton fashion, he wouldn't admit to it.
"The 'Don’t Speak' music – it was me," Shelton said during his confessional. "I can’t wait to do it again because Kelly blocked me. She can kiss my butt."
But Shelton was caught red-handed when he accidentally hit his button, setting off the anthem. "Dang …I derailed everything," he said.
"You're a liar and a cheater. I can't believe it's you," Stefani said. Legend added, "I don’t know how Gwen can be in a relationship with someone who has this hard of a time telling the truth."
Shelton's biggest takeaway? "I got to be better at lying," he said.
The night didn't get easier for Shelton or Clarkson.
Mendeleyev Galileo Einstein Pythagoras Darwin Euclid Leonardo Allan-Blitz – yes, that's his real name – performed a stripped-down version of Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country." All four coaches turned around, marveling at his voice and his elaborate name.
"Do you have a nickname we could use?" Shelton asked, while Clarkson wondered, "Wait, where did that (name) come from? Do your parents … did they like drugs?"
Legend added, "Your parents are hippies is what you're saying."
Clarkson used flattery ("Your voice sounds like the best glass of pinot noir"). Stefani got emotional ("My favorite part was watching you feel that moment and connect with the audience"). Legend complimented his moniker ("First of all, I’m not afraid to pronounce your name"). And Shelton stuck to his rustic roots ("Your voice literally does shake the rafters. It helps tell a story. …That’s what we used to do in country music. It’s a lost art.").
In the end, Allan-Blitz picked Legend. The singer's nickname is Lev, by the way.
