Watch “The Fly” star Jeff Goldblum save an errant housefly mid-interview: 'That's a magical moment'
It happened while he filled in for Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show.
Is this the most Jeff Goldblum move ever?
While filling in as host of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, the quirky star of The Fly encountered one of the insects as he interviewed Awkwafina. You can see his eyes, ahem, land on something in the air as he prepares to ask the star a question around the 12-minute mark in the video below.
"I have nothing to do with this," Goldblum assured the audience. "I don't know how this has happened. Right there, if you can see it, there's a fly on the desk."
He observed that the fly wasn't dead, but it also wasn't moving. "I mention this because I played la mouche, the fly," Goldblum said, using the French term. "I was the fly."
Awkwafina was fully aware and said she loved that movie. The audience applauded the 1986 film.

Then he asked Kimmel's sidekick, Guillermo, if it had happened to Kimmel. It hadn't.
Awkwafina, who was there to promote her new movie Jackpot, suggested that the fly was a fan who recognized Goldblum.
"Hey, I tell my kids, you know, when you see a spider, I go, 'Don't hurt anything. Don't hurt anything! Take it and put it out,'" the father of two school-age sons said. "So what should we do with this?"
The Jurassic Park actor then spoke directly to the fly: "Yes, hi, hi, hi, hi."
He then asked Guillermo to put it outside "in a nice flower."
But of course he introduced the two while handing over the unharmed specimen.
"That's Guillermo. That's my friend the fly," Goldblum said.

He declared, "That's a magical moment!"
And that's just one of the ways The Big Chill star has delighted this week as he filled in for Kimmel.
In another, he invited several struggling actors onto the network show to perform as — Jeff Goldblum. The idea was that it would give the union members the one more paying role they needed to make them eligible for health insurance through the Screen Actors Guild.

Earlier this month, Goldblum popped up elsewhere on TV, when he welcomed Scarlett Johansson to the upcoming installment of the dinosaur franchise during her interview on Today. In his recorded message, he advised her "don't get eaten, unless you want to."
Goldblum's upcoming projects include the Netflix show Kaos and November's big-screen adaptation of Wicked, in which he plays the Wizard.
