Reese Witherspoon gets emotional during Legally Blonde cast reunion
We most certainly will not object to this.
More than 19 years after Elle Woods (and her best pal Bruiser) walked onto the Harvard campus in her all-pink outfit with the dream of winning back Warner Huntington III, the Legally Blonde cast has reunited.
On Tuesday, cast members Reese Witherspoon (Elle Woods), Selma Blair (Vivian Kensington), Jessica Cauffiel (Margot), Jennifer Coolidge (Paulette Bonafont??), Matthew Davis (Warner Huntington III), Ali Larter (Brooke Taylor Windham), Holland Taylor (Professor Stromwell), Alanna Ubach (Serena McGuire), and Luke Wilson (Emmett Richmond) joined Saturday Night Live's Chloe Fineman for the virtual reunion, which was nothing if not a love fest.
Together, the cast talked about everything from filming at UCLA to the bend and snap. "People always ask me to do the bend and snap," Witherspoon said, before the cast collectively performed the move. "That was a full musical sequence that we ended up cutting out of the movie," Witherspoon continued. "It just felt odd because there was only one musical sequence." (Witherspoon then noted the irony of the film becoming a Broadway musical.)
Jessica Cauffiel then shared the amazing story of how the characters Margot and Serena came to be when Alanna Ubach stopped her in the bathroom outside of the audition and told her "I need to make rent." Together, the women rehearsed in the bathroom to make sure Ubach would land the part.
Matthew Davis also shared the story of what it was like to book such a big film so early in his career. "I was so out of my league," the actor said, reminiscing about how he'd just left Salt Lake City, Utah before getting the role of Warner. "I was crapping my pants every step of the way," he said with a laugh.
But more than anything, the cast spent most of the reunion talking about how much they loved working together. An emotional Witherspoon rounded out the chat by thanking everyone, saying, "I can't tell you what it means to me to see your faces. This was my college. This is where I went to college. I didn't finish college but I finished Legally Blonde," she said. "We all worked together and made this movie together that has inspired so many young people. It's just such a gift ... Every time people come up to me and tell me they love this movie, I give it all to you, I share it all with you all."
