How to Watch 'Morbius', Even If You'd Rather Not
For someone who has sat through a multiverse of superhero flicks the past few years, I'm still (to my own surprise) game for just about anything involving superpowers, explosions, Hans Zimmer scores, and/or Tomdaya.
That said, out of, you know, all of it?—?the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, and god knows what else—there's only one comic-book movie umbrella I've never been able to get behind: the Sonyverse. The Sonyverse is a loose term for Sony's shared universe of Spider-Man foes, between Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter. (The last two are currently in development.) I understand that there's a whole tug-of-war between Sony and Marvel, but if you make an entire world of Spider-Man villains without Spider-Man in the mix, you're lowering your own stakes right off the bat. So it's not the biggest surprise that the Jared Leto-starring Morbius, which debuts this weekend, is earning the worst reviews we've seen since the days of Batfleck.
If you're a superhero completionist, we're guessing that you want to watch Morbius anyway. There's only one way to watch the film, where Leto plays a doctor-turned-vampire for now. You'll have to check showtimes at your local movie theater and buy a ticket. If the film is more of a I'll-just-wait-until-it-hits-on-demand situation for you, Morbius will be available to buy on services like Amazon and iTunes in roughly two months' time. After that, due to recent deals Sony has made with both Netflix and Disney, we'll likely see Morbius on both streamers' platforms between a year and a half and two years from now.
However you choose to watch, just make sure to keep a balanced diet and watch a non-superhero movie once in a while. You might even enjoy it.
