Watch: The Most Wide-Ranging Interview With Kelly Slater Since His Retirement
Leave it to Nate Fletcher to pull of the best and most wide-ranging interview with Kelly Slater since he retired from full-time competitive surfing.
In this new and interactive podcast, called "Live and Direct," Fletcher gets Slater on the horn via Facetime, and the pair chat about a variety of topics, from "retiring from the world tour, becoming a new father, corked-out airs vs. straight airs, new-wave creating ideas, humble beginnings, future plans, artificial reefs, free energy, aliens, ancient civilizations, and more."
Slater and Fletcher know one another well, so this "interview" feels more like a loose chat between friends over beers, versus a stuffy Q&A between the media and the GOAT.
While Fletcher begins by tossing Slater a softball ("How does it feel to retire from competition?"), with that subject out of the way, the entire conversation turns loose and natural. While the total series will span 5 episodes, the intro episode is playing above, and the second part is playing below. While we're only 20 minutes into the hour + interview, it's a banger. Already, Slater's spilled the beans on his upcoming travel plans, his thoughts on the progression of aerial surfing, and the name of his new child. Spoiler alert: It's not gonna be Jimmy. (Sorry, Baywatch fans.)
Check Nate's new YouTube channel tomorrow for part three, with the final two episodes dropping later this week. From the sounds of it, things are about to get pretty weird, and we're all here for it.
