Watch the 'Sing Street' Trailer! The '80s Movie Musical You've Been Waiting For
If you can’t get the ‘80s out of your head, here’s a great reason to start dancing on the ceiling: the exclusive trailer for John Carney’s forthcoming Sing Street! The Irish director had audiences swaying with his 2007 critical hit Once; and in 2013’s Begin Again he got Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo to rock out.
In Sing Street, Carney takes us back to 1980s Dublin — the same city where Once took place — and follows 14-year-old Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), who uses his musical inclinations to win over a girl, the gorgeous Raphina (Lucy Boynton).
Troubled by his parents, a new school, and money woes, a bleach-banged Conor throws everything he has into his crush, whom he asks to star in his music video. But there’s one hitch: He doesn’t actually belong to a band. Rushed to deliver on his promise, he scrambles to form a local group and soon they’re pouring their hearts and souls into their songs.
The film soundchecks music from the biggest radio stars of the era, including A-Ha, Duran Duran, Hall & Oates, The Cure, The Clash, Spandau Ballet, and The Jam.
From big hair to Phil Collins-inspired logic, Sing Street is poised to charm audiences and get us all doing the Molly Ringwald when it enters theaters soon. (A U.S. release date has not yet been set.)
