What to watch this weekend Feb. 14, 2025: TV awards contenders
Pack the sunscreen — we’re going back to The White Lotus.
The highly anticipated third season of Mike White’s Emmy-winning anthology series debuts this weekend (Sunday at 9/8c on HBO and Max). The satirical series, which due to rules regarding recurring characters competes as a drama at the Emmys, takes viewers to Thailand for eight new episodes after previous seasons were spent at resorts located in Hawaii and Sicily, respectively. You’ll have to tune in to find out what life-altering secrets the hotel’s guests are hiding this time because HBO would never reveal that in a logline, but much like the previous two seasons, the cast is jam-packed with familiar faces, including Walton Goggins, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan, Jason Isaacs, and Parker Posey, among others. Another enthralling addition to the franchise, The White Lotus is once again the awards contender to watch this weekend.

However, if your interests lie elsewhere, other contenders include:
Yellowjackets: If the sunny skies of Thailand don’t do it for you, perhaps the creeping darkness of the Canadian wilderness will? The long-delayed third season of Showtime’s Emmy-nominated drama series about a high school soccer team forced to fend for themselves in the wild after their plane crashes also premieres this weekend. Joel McHale and Oscar winner Hilary Swank join the series this season, which continues its use of dual timelines to follow the girls’ strange, cult-y existence in the past and the survivors’ trauma-filled lives in the present. The first two episodes are now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime but will air linearly Sunday at 9/8c on Showtime.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The U.S. has likely already given host John Oliver enough fodder to last a lifetime in just a single month, which is to say HBO’s 30-time Emmy-winning topical current events series is going to have a lot to say when it returns for its 12th season this weekend. You could probably turn the episode into a drinking game, but you might also die, so this is not recommended. The season premiere airs Sunday at 11/10c on HBO and Max.
Cobra Kai: One of the most successful shows (if not the most successful) to come out of Hollywood’s love affair with revisiting beloved titles, Netflix’s Karate Kid sequel series is finally coming to an end after six seasons. The new episodes, known as Part 3, pick up in the emotional aftermath of the shocking death of Cobra Kai competitor Kwon (Brandon H. Lee), which led to the cancellation of the Sekai Taikai at the end of Part 2. All five episodes of Part 3 are now streaming on Netflix.
