What to watch this weekend Feb. 28, 2025: TV awards contenders
She shoots, Netflix scores.
Rom-com queen and Oscar nominee Kate Hudson leads Running Point, a new workplace comedy from executive producers Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen about the owners of the Los Angeles Waves, a fictional basketball team modeled after the legendary Lakers (Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis are also EPs). When the team's disgraced president (Emmy winner Justin Theroux) resigns to enter rehab, he names his younger sister, former wild child Isla Gordon (Hudson), as his replacement. Underestimated and overlooked her entire life, Isla sets out to prove to everyone, including brothers Ness (Scott MacArthur) and Sandy (Drew Tarver), the team's general manager and chief financial officer, respectively, that she's the right person for the job. Much like Kaling's other comedies, the 10-episode series (now streaming on Netflix) is an easy, entertaining watch with an excellent ensemble (Brenda Song is a standout as the Waves' chief of staff). It also has a lot to say about the pressures of being a woman in a male-dominated environment, making Running Point the awards contender to watch this weekend.

However, if you're looking for something more dramatic to pass the time this weekend, other contenders include:
Eyes on the Prize III: We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Rest: This new documentary series follows the award-winning Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Movement, a landmark docuseries that aired on PBS in 1987, and its celebrated 1990 follow-up, Eyes on the Prize II: America at the Racial Crossroads 1965–1985. The newest installment traces various movements from the late 1970s through 2015 and focuses on the many people who continue to strive for freedom, equity, and justice. All six must-see episodes are now streaming on Max.
Berlin ER: If you can't get enough of The Pitt, Apple TV+'s new medical drama should be next on your list. Set in the chaotic emergency room of Berlin's most overcrowded hospital, the gritty German-language series follows the new head of the ER, Dr. Zanna Parker (Haley Louise Jones), who has left Munich and the dying embers of her messy personal life for a fresh start. What she finds, and the reception she receives from the hospital's underpaid staff, including Slavko Popadi?'s heavily medicated Dr. Ben Weber, makes for an eye-opening experience. The first two episodes are now streaming on Apple TV+.
Survivor: While simply existing as a human being on Earth in the year 2025 may feel like you're competing as an ill-prepared contestant on the long-running CBS reality series, you're (probably) not. In that case, you should check out Season 48, which follows 18 first-time castaways separated into three tribes in the jungles of Fiji. The two-hour premiere is now streaming on Paramount+.
