The Way Home EPs Address Pregnant Del Speculation, Rule Out Finale Theory About Young Jacob
Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Way Home Season 3 finale. Proceed at your own risk!
Despite much fan speculation to the contrary, The Way Home’s Del did not arrive in Port Haven in 1974 with a bun in the oven.

Viewers first started wondering if young Del was pregnant when she got sick during her first date with Colton on a boat, then again while riding in his truck. Couple that with the fact that Del was mysteriously sent to the small town by her parents and that she was often palpably sad, especially while discussing home and the past, and it sure did seem like the future Mrs. Landry might be harboring a secret baby.
The popular fan theory took showrunners Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke by surprise, mainly because it was “never even a thought that entered our minds” despite all the signs hinting toward it, Clarke tells TVLine. But when the EPs saw all the comments online, they realized what they had accidentally sowed.
“Sorry about that!” Clarke tells TVLine with a laugh.
“I couldn’t believe that. That was not intended,” says Conkie, adding that their reaction to speculation was, “‘What? Oh, uh-oh.'”
And while the duo are clearing things up, they’re also ruling out another speculative idea that took hold with the Season 3 finale: When Colton was recounting how the pond never worked for Jacob, we saw the young boy come out of the body of water and reassure his father that it was OK because he’d done it before. So does that mean little Jacob actually time travelled before he disappeared?
“I know, in the mix and the edit, even, I thought, ‘Oh, people are going to jump on that one.’ But I think it’s pretty safe to say that he’s just saying, ‘I’ve swum in here before. So I know what I’m doing,'” Conkie clarifies. “He’s been in there a few times, and nothing ever happens.”
Clarke adds that Jacob was being “very straightforward” with his words.
“Like, that was part of the reason for why Colton never thought Jacob could have disappeared into the pond was that he’d caught him swimming in there before,” Clarke says.
So, sorry, The Way Home fans, but it might be time to give those theory brains a rest.
