‘The Way Home’ Star Andie MacDowell, 66, Reveals Her Honest Thoughts About Being Single
Andie MacDowell has been the star of many romantic comedies, but she's just fine not being the star of one in real life.
Back in January, the Hallmark actress appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote season 2 of her hit drama The Way Home. As she and host Drew Barrymore spoke about the show and the wedding of Andie's daughter Margaret Qualley (who she shares with ex-husband Paul Qualley), the discussion quickly turned to their own dating lives. When Drew asked Andie if she had a romantic interest, the 66-year-old star revealed she's been on her own for quite some time.
"I'm so single," Andie told Drew in a video posted on Instagram on July 10. "But you need to date — I don't. You should do it now, because you get older and you care less. I hate to tell you."
Upon hearing Andie's initial thoughts on dating, Drew couldn't help but voice her concern about being single.
"I think I might be there!" Drew exclaimed. "I'm gonna turn 49. I am not that aggressive or interested. I'm very happy with my life."
"I know what you mean," Andie replied. "I want to say, I got really tired. People finally gave up, because everybody would say, 'So, is there a man?' I was just like, you know, years and years, years go by. Now, nobody asks me anymore."
If that wasn't enough, Andie decided she'd give her two cents about dating in her 60s. As she explained, she's not only fine with not having a partner, she has other loved ones who take that place too.
"I do think that, you know, we've had such an evolution of who we are as human beings," she added. "I do think that there is nothing wrong with being single, really. I have great female friends and I have some male friends that I like too."
Not surprisingly, Andie's feelings about being single had fans rushing to the comments to side with her on the subject.
"Normalize women being single … we aren’t sitting home crying. We are working on our careers, traveling and doing whatever we want ??," one person wrote on Instagram. "I love that women understand they don’t need to be part of a couple to be happy and whole. ??," another agreed. "Andie is so spot on, the older you get the less you care ??," a different follower added.
