Who Went Home on ‘The Bachelorette’ Tonight Before the Shocking Twist?
Jenn Tran’s journey to find love on The Bachelorette got a bit more confusing this week with a shocking twist no one saw coming.
The pretty physician assistant started the week in Auckland, New Zealand with 12 remaining suitors, including the ever-feuding Devin and Sam M.
Week 4 included two one-on-one dates, a group rugby match date and the unexpected departure of one overeager suitor.
But the biggest twist was the arrival of a man from Jenn's past who showed up to announce that he wanted her back!
Read on to find out more about who went home tonight, and more importantly, who showed up in New Zealand.
How did Jenn’s first one-on-one date go?
Jenn took in views of Auckland from a restaurant with her one-on-one date pick, Sam M.
The hunky contractor claimed that it wasn’t their first date.
“Was the couch the first date?” Jenn, who has shared sexual chemistry with Sam M., snapped about their previous kissing encounter.
He wanted them to do a bungee-style experience from the Auckland building called Sky Jump, but Jenn moaned, “I hate heights. I don’t want to do this.”
She told cameras Sam M. had made the decision for her.
They went to the top of the building where they continued to argue about doing the jump.
“Sam is not reading my emotions at all,” Jenn fumed. “He’s in this for himself. He’s an adrenaline junkie.”
But then, Sam M. told her not to jump if it didn’t feel right.
Jenn cried and realized that ultimately, Sam M. had been there for her.
She jumped off the building and said “it was f--king cool.” Then the star shared a makeout session with Sam M.
During the dinner portion of their date, Jenn told her suitor that she was afraid of guys not working on a relationship.
“I would never stop working,” Sam M. claimed. But he was also looking for “wild, passionate” love.
Jenn cited her parents’ divorce as causing her to feel like she wasn’t worthy of love.
Sam M. assured her she was worthy, and added that he was once engaged—until his then-fiancee “told me there was another guy…it was such a gut punch.”
Jenn was glad to hear he had been engaged and gave him the date rose.
“I am falling for Sam, [M.]” she told cameras.
What happened on Jenn’s group date?
The Bachelorette beauty met 10 other guys on a sports field, where they would compete in the show’s “Rugby Royale” match.
Maori dancers greeted the group with a ceremonial performance and the other Sam, Sam N. took the initiative, picking up Jenn in front of his rivals.
Meanwhile, Devin was looking forward to his one-on-one date with Jenn but had to endure hanging at the hotel with nemesis Sam M.
Two teams of five men each vied against each other in rugby, and Sam N. tackled aggressively.
He had written “Jenn’s husband” on the back of his sports jersey.
After his blue team won, Sam N. carried Jenn off the field, bothering the other dudes.
Soon, he was carrying the rugby trophy into their lodgings and not allowing Marcus to sit down.
Sam N. told cameras he had “boss bitch energy” that night.
Jonathon accused Sam N. of being disrespectful to the group.
Marcus had been injured in the rugby game, which concerned Jenn.
“I’ve been through worse,” the crying former Army Ranger shrugged about his shoulder.
Jenn told him, “You don’t always have to be strong for me.”
Sam N. told the others he was sure to receive the group date rose.
He soon was interrupting Thomas N.’s alone time with Jenn.
“Love virgin” Sam N., who’d never had a girlfriend, asked Jenn, “Can I kiss you?”
But she hesitated and then told him, “I don’t think I’m the right person,” and suddenly said she’d walk him off the show!
Sam N. boarded the departure van, saying in confessional, “I’m leaving here confused…I feel like the biggest fool of the century.”
Jenn told the others it would have been unfair to keep Sam N.
She awarded the date rose to Marcus, who was popular with the group.
He wept in front of the other guys and they said they loved him.
Did Devin impress Jenn on their one-on-one date?
The owner of a freight company has made Jenn laugh during The Bachelorette, but she was looking to tell him about her Buddhist religion and deepen their connection.
Maori dancers interacted with them and Devin introduced himself as “a wanderer” who had lived many places.
Devin revealed his father had immigrated from Mexico, and Jenn said her Vietnamese parents were Buddhists and she’d want her future children to attend temple.
He seemed to enjoy learning about Jenn’s culture and noted, “I think I’m falling for her.”
Devin revealed to Jenn that his mother had a fling in college and got pregnant with him.
Devin’s father wasn’t in his life, but his mom “was very strong in those tough moments. She worked two jobs and went back to college.”
However, young Devin yearned to live with his dad, which he regretted, because his mother “never wavered once…she has taken care of me.”
Jenn appreciated his life story, as her own mom had been her rock while her dad wasn’t there.
“He decided to just not talk to me ever again,” she sighed to Devin.
Familywise, “We’re very similar,” he noted.
Devin admitted, “I’m falling for you and I’m not afraid to say it.”
Jenn told the cameras she’d never felt as appreciated by a man before.
The beauty gave Devin her second one-on-one date rose.
What twist happened at the end of the show?
As the guys prepared for the rose ceremony, host Jesse Palmer told cameras that a lover from Jenn’s past had contacted producers and flown himself to New Zealand “on his own dime” to plead his case with her.
Matt Rossi arrived and told Jesse he and Jenn had dated three years before and had stayed in touch.
“I’m here to tell Jenn, ‘I still love you,’” Matt informed Jesse.
Jenn was startled when Matt approached her. She gasped, “What are you doing here?!”
Matt told her he’d tried to attend a wedding in Columbia but left because he missed her.
The handsome insurance executive, 27, who has also done internet videos, wanted to prove “I’m not ready to let you go…give me the chance to show you.”
When Jenn asked if Matt was ready to get engaged, he said yes.
Jenn recalled how they’d reconnected as just friends after having dated three years earlier. He was NOT one of the “toxic” exes she’d already talked about on the show.
“I really do love you,” Matt insisted.
Jenn asked, “You want to date me and my 11 other boyfriends?”
Matt replied that yes, he wanted to join the show!
As the episode ended, Jenn took a break to think.
But a preview for next week showed that Matt was determined to stick around while the other men were livid.
Who went home on The Bachelorette season 21 episode 4?
Jenn only eliminated one guy, Sam Nejad, 25, the entrepreneur from Carlsbad, California.
After Jenn got caught off guard by the return of ex-boyfriend Matt, viewers didn’t get to see a rose ceremony on episode 4.
The surprise left Jenn with 11 suitors—or maybe still 12, if Matt remained!
