Why Dylan Dreyer Is Noticeably Absent From 'Today'
Dylan Dreyer has been a staple of Today's third hour for some time now, but she's been hard to catch this month.
First, she was on vacation with her family. Then the network opted to extend its coverage of the Paris Olympics into her usual time slot, but the apparent reason for her absence on Friday, Aug. 9, is something fans of the media personality are already rallying behind online.
A day before she was missed from her usual spot on morning talk show that airs at 9 a.m. ET, the 43-year-old weather correspondent teased two separate looks at the upcoming season of the award-winning NBC series she also hosts: Earth Odyssey.
"It’s another season of @nbcearthodyssey !! Filming Season 7 now…I’m so grateful you all keep requesting more! I’m so proud of this show and this crew!" she exclaimed in the caption of her Thursday, Aug. 8, upload, which featured a behind-the-scenes snap of the set.

She then followed up with a second post, which included a blooper of herself bursting out into a fit of laughter in front of her production crew, joking in the caption, "All I have to do is get through this one last thing and everyone is cleared to go home…#themoreyouknow @nbcearthodyssey."
While Dreyer didn't get into much detail regarding Season 7 of the NBC program that airs on Saturday mornings, she tagged her hairstylist Kim Russo, who offered more than enough insight into why Dreyer didn't make it into the New York City studio on Friday.
A series of brief clips uploaded to Russo's story captured the meteorologist-turned-TV personality reciting her lines for an upcoming episode of the docuseries, which was filmed at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, per the geotag.
"Another day at the office," Russo quipped in her Instagram Story on Thursday. A second upload to the social media platform documented Russo and Dreyer's departure from the historical site nestled into the hills of Arcadia, Calif. "That's a wrap!" she wrote.
Season 6 of Earth Odyssey premiered in the fall of 2023 and only aired its final episode this past May. The network hasn't publicly revealed when Season 7 can be expected, but if the timeline is similar to previous seasons, there may be new episodes of the NBC series as soon as this October.
