Why Princess Diaries ' Heather Matarazzo Left Hollywood for Michigan

Heather Matarazzo is sharing her Hollywood diaries.

The Princess Diaries alum—who played Lilly Moscovitz, the best friend of Anne Hathaway's character Mia Thermopolis, in the early aughts film—got candid about why she chose to leave Los Angeles behind and move to Michigan with her wife of six years Heather Turman.

"My wife was born and raised in Michigan," Heather shared in a Aug. 17 TikTok video. "We met in L.A. about eight years ago, and a year and a half ago, we kind of looked at each other and were like, 'Do we wanna be in Los Angeles anymore?'"

Realizing the answer was a "big fat no," the couple packed up and settled down in the Midwestern state.

"I've only ever lived in New York or L.A.," Heather continued, "so this was quite an experience for me and continues to be."

But the Scream alum isn't done with big cities forever. In fact, Heather shared that since the move, she's had to split time between Michigan and Dublin, where she's been filming the second season of Wednesday alongside Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie and Luis Guzmán.

Still, she's had plenty of opportunities to explore some of Michigan's great offerings, including apple cider doughnuts, the Ann Arbor Art Fair and snowy winters.

"I just love it here so much," Heather explained. "There's such an abundance of nature, and everyone's just been so incredibly kind."

This isn't the first time Heather has opened up about how she feels about life as a Hollywood actor. The 41-year-old previously aired her grievances about being "cast aside" by the entertainment industry.

"I feel at a loss because I feel I have done THE WORK, for a long time, with no complaint," Heather shared in a series of messages on X (formerly Twitter) in May 2022. "I have taken the disappointments, the rejections, etc., and maintained that rejection is redirection. I have had continual FAITH in the Universe, but today, something broke."

Noting that she has given her life to acting "for over 30 years," she added, "I just need a win. A life-changing win. Cause this ain't it."
