Wind down summer in CT with some Post Malone, ’90s R&B, alternative rock and Rapsody

The season is winding down for some big summer venues.

The free Hartford Live! concert series outside the Old State House ends Sept. 19 with Real Estate. The Xfinity Theatre season winds down with Post Malone on Sept. 21. Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater has only a month or so of shows left, and the season at New Haven’s Westville Music Bowl has come to an end.

Happily, as outdoor stages close up for a while, fall events are already starting up, like the incomparable Fall Puppet Slam at UConn.

It’s the kind of week that encompasses both the frisky classic rock of Bachman-Turner Overdrive and the gloom rock of Alkaline Trio and CKY.

Jane’s Addiction and Love and Rockets Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, 500 Broad St., Bridgeport

You can call it nostalgia, but it’s not like there have been other bands like Jane’s Addiction and Love and Rockets before or since their late 1980s heydays. Not only is it a fascinating double bill of American ’90s rock and British ’80s post-punk, both these bands only recently reunited after a decade or two hiatus. Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. $23.80-$195. hartfordhealthcareamp.com.

Squeeze and Boy George Mohegan Sun Arena, 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville

You could argue that Squeeze’s pop hits sound ageless, as bright and sunny as when they first hit the radio 40-something years ago, while Boy George’s Culture Club records sound like something that could only have happened in the early ‘80s. And you could have that exact argument when Squeeze and Boy George combine forces for a show at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. $59.95-$547.80. mohegansun.com.

Among the seasoned performers are Esme Roszel and Harry LaCoste Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. at the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre.
