‘The X-Files’ stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson nearly ruin their SAG Awards reunion: ‘Let’s get out of here as soon as we can’
This reunion was ... out there.
On Sunday, The X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunited at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards. And they nearly ruined their moment in the spotlight when they opened up the winner's envelope for the Best Drama Ensemble category before ever announcing the nominees.

"Ensemble," Duchovny began after stepping out on stage. "I think that's a French word that means, 'Thank God I only have to work three days a week.' It's great to see you, Gillian. You look ..."
Anderson finished his sentence: "Younger than you last saw me when we shot 218 episodes?"
Duchovny and Anderson talked about "what makes great drama," and then answered at different times, "Timing" and "Chemistry," respectively.
When the audience only gave them a mild chuckle, Anderson shouted, "We still got it! Hilarious! We did that so well."
And Duchovny added, "Let's get out of here as soon as we can."

The duo then accidentally opened up the envelope before they had read out the nominees. Someone backstage started frantically shouting at them, and the clip package of the nominated ensembles promptly interrupted them. For the record, the winner of Best Drama Ensemble was Shōgun, and the other four nominees were Bridgerton, The Day of the Jackal, The Diplomat, and Slow Horses. See the winners list.

The performers have kept in touch ever since their Fox sci-fi show went off the air in 2001, first with the I Want to Believe feature film in 2008, and then with the two revival mini-seasons in 2016 and 2018. More recently, Anderson appeared on Duchovny's Fail Better podcast in 2024 where they spoke openly about their ups and downs together as costars.
Duchovny and Anderson both received multiple nominations at the SAG Awards for playing FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully during the series' original run. Anderson won the guild's Best Drama Actress category twice for The X-Files in 1996 and 1997, and she even proclaimed, "David, I love you," when she claimed that first trophy (watch below).
Years later, Anderson added two more Screen Actors Guild Awards to her mantel when she won for The Crown in 2021 for Best Drama Actress (for portraying British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher) and Best Drama Ensemble. Duchovny never took home a SAG Award of his own — now that's an unexplained mystery that Mulder and Scully should really look into.
It's been two years since news broke that a "diverse" X-Files reboot was reportedly in the works from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. "I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast," said original showrunner Chris Carter. He added that Coogler "has got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory." Fox has yet to make an official statement about the rumored project.
Ready for some completely random X-Files facts related to Feb. 23, the date of this year's SAG Awards? First of all, that just so happens to be the 61st birthday of Dana Katherine Scully. In 1996, the fan-fave episode "Pusher" aired, written by a young Vince Gilligan, who'd later go on to create the Breaking Bad universe. And in 1997, the episode "Unrequited" aired, about an invisible assassin.
