'YAY KHAKIS GUY': Fans of MSNBC's Steve Kornacki rejoice over his Georgia runoff coverage
Steve Kornacki and his khakis are back(i).
The 41-year-old MSNBC correspondent, who went viral for his near 'round the clock election analysis and signature khaki pants during the presidential election in November, again garnered fan attention online this Tuesday as he returned to cover the Georgia Senate runoff with a "Kornacki cam" that followed his moves during commercial breaks.
“Usual rules apply,” MSNBC’s Brian Williams said to him. “Wave your arms if there’s any reason to come back to you.”
Media outlets projected a win for Democrat Raphael Warnock Tuesday night in one of two Georgia races. On Wednesday, media outlets declared that Democrat Jon Ossoff had defeated Georgia Republican Sen. David Perdue. The two pivotal wins give Democrats control of the Senate.
Kornacki vowed on Twitter not to leave the studio until election results were in and shared Wednesday morning that he slept for 75 minutes overnight.
Fans of the unrelenting stats man weighed in online, rejoicing over Kornacki's return to election map coverage.
"happy steve kornacki day to all who celebrate," tweeted @DeviRuia.
"The fact that there is a Kornacki cam is greatest highlight of my night," added @heythereelaur.
"YAY KHAKIS GUY," user @stephen_iovino said their mom cheered upon switching the channel to MSNBC.
"When you're writing on that board, that comforts me," "Supermarket Sweep" host Leslie Jones said in one of several videos cheering on Kornacki. "Wait a minute, how did you figure that out so quick, Steve, in your head like that?"
Of course, memes and parodies followed. Dave Jorgenson, who runs The Washington Post's TikTok account, dressed up like the MSNBC correspondent to give a Kornackian analysis of Kornacki's own analysis.
"Steve Kornacki is functioning 100%, just as polling suggested," he said. "We can expect full Kornacki, in his khakis, all night long."
"My eyes have been glued to steve kornacki all day like he's my warm, familiar, khaki lighthouse," tweeted @rach_levin.
