How Zach Braff and ‘Scrubs’ Co-Star Donald Faison Are Like a ‘Married Couple'

Zach Braff revealed to People how he and his Scrubs co-star Donald Faison are “like a married couple.”

Braff and Faison worked together for nine seasons on NBC’s medical dramedy, and have maintained a close friendship and business partnership since it ended in 2010. Braff appeared in an episode of Faison’s follow-up sitcom, The Exes; and most recently the pals re-teamed for a series of tongue-in-cheek T-Mobile ads opposite Jason Momoa.

"We're just very close," said Braff, who is the godfather to Faison’s two children. The Garden State actor said the secret to the duo’s long-lasting friendship is "the same thing to any relationship: communicating and not letting trivial things get in the way."

Braff joked that he and Faison’s kinship was closer to that of a “married couple” than anything else. "We get annoyed with each other and we just let it slide off our backs," he explained. "Sometimes I want to kill him, but then I realize I can't quit him and we love each other."

In March, Faison explained the origin story of the duo’s friendship during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

''The first time I met him was at the table read for Scrubs,” Faison recalled. “And we talked for a little bit, and I was like, 'Wow, we kind of have the same sense of humor.' And after the first season was over, we both went to New York,'' he explained, adding that he and Braff decided to get an apartment together for the summer while they worked on separate shows.

Faison continued: ''I realized he was my best friend when we were in the living room playing ping pong in our underwear. I was like 'You're my best friend! Look at us!'''

Braff is currently starring opposite Vince Vaughn on the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey.
