Cake of the Day: Two-Toned Bundt Cake

Today’s stunning two-colored bundt cake comes from video gamer and baker Olivia Bogacki, who runs the cleverly named dessert blog Liv for Cake. Based in Vancouver, Bogacki taught software design, testing, and project management at Vancouver Flim School when her career path took a turn. She decided to attend the pastry school at Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver. She now teaches a different kind of design, one that involves whisks, spatulas, and lots of butter. On her site you’ll find original recipes for things like s’more brownies and eggnog macarons. Here, she teaches us how to create a multi-colored spiral cake.
It all starts with the type of cake pan Bogacki uses: a heritage bundt pan from Nordic Ware. She then makes the cake batter, and divides it into three parts. She colors them each a different shade using varying amounts of cocoa powder. She then puts each portion of batter into a pastry bag so she can pipe it into the grooves of the pan. To ensure each nook and cranny is filled she uses a cake skewer to nudge the batter into place. “It doesn’t really matter how you do this, as you’ve already created a “shell” for your cake,” she writes. Then bake, pray, and flip!
