After 100 years, Canal Street men’s store opens a New Orleans hotel
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On a corner of Canal Street, inside Rubensteins, one of the walls came crumbling down.
It came down when owner Kenny Rubenstein recently remodeled.
But he salvaged and saved the wall’s wallpaper of autographs.
It’s a long list of famous faces who shopped here.

Liberace. Edwin Edwards. And many more, as WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood counts.
What everybody at Rubensteins is counting is birthdays.
Rubensteins is now 100 years old.
It’s not only a men’s clothing store, but also a hotel. Just behind the store is the hotel. With 40 boutique rooms. In the back of the business that made just 47-cents on that first day of business.
It was a Saturday in 1924. A century of sales and history in the middle of New Orleans.
