"As If!" 12 of the Best Alicia Silverstone Movies, Ranked

If you grew up in the '90s or early '00s, you're likely familiar with Alicia Silverstone movies and her effervescent presence. The star will always be known for her role in the beloved 1995 teen movie Clueless — the sunny sass with which she said “Ugh, as if!” is nothing short of legendary. While Clueless gave Silverstone her star-is-born moment, she actually got her start a few years before the high school comedy came out.

Prior to Clueless, Silverstone famously starred in three music videos for the rock band Aerosmith. Silverstone played the dream girl in Aerosmith's "Cryin'" and "Amazing" (both 1993) and "Crazy" (1994).

Her striking looks and fresh energy helped bring the classic rock band into the MTV era, and after her first appearance in "Cryin,'" Aerosmith had a huge increase in record sales. "Aerosmith made a hell of a lot of money off that video," Silverstone explained in a 1995 interview with Rolling Stone. "Their sales tripled or something. They would have been crazy not to ask me back."

The Aerosmith videos also helped Silverstone score her breakout role in Clueless. As the film's director, Amy Heckerling, explained to Rolling Stone, "I was minding my own business on my treadmill watching MTV when I saw 'Cryin’' and just went cuckoo bananas."

We're also pretty cuckoo bananas for the smiley blonde star. Here's a guide to our favorite Alicia Silverstone movies, from '90s teen classics to under-the-radar '00s indies.

12. Batman & Robin (1997)

Silverstone played Batgirl in this campy '90s Batman movie. While Batman & Robin isn't one of the most critically acclaimed Batman films by any means, it has something of a cult following for its over-the-top aesthetic and hammy performances.

In 2020, Silverstone told The Guardian that Batman & Robin "definitely wasn’t my favorite film-making experience."

11. Vamps (2012)

After the '90s, Silverstone took on a string of supporting roles and roles in smaller-scale films. She also became a passionate activist for animal rights, and remains well-known for her veganism. In 2012, Silverstone returned to her roots by partnering once again with Clueless director Amy Heckerling in the vampire comedy Vamps.

Silverstone plays Goody, a vampire living with her fellow vamp BFF, Stacy (Krysten Ritter), in New York City. Soon Stacy falls in love with her classmate, but complications ensue as she finds out that his father is a vampire slayer, leading the two vamps to wonder whether they should slay the vampire that turned them for a chance at real love or stay as they are.
