The $30 Baking Tool I'll Be Using All Fall

My best friend goes through phases where she bakes a ton and, right now, we’re in one (a little ahead of schedule for fall, but she’s got the time). I just so happen to live with her, so I’m always reaping the benefits of her baking creations. Whether it’s muffins, sourdough bread, or cookies, my apartment often smells like a bakery — and I’m certainly not complaining (minus the constant fullness I feel from eating all the time).

That said, baking often requires a certain setup — and one thing she’s been missing in her arsenal is a cooling rack. A cooling rack comes in handy for so many reasons: It cools baked goods evenly, prevents soggy bottoms, and helps preserve your intended texture (i.e., crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside). If you’re someone who makes a batch of banana bread each week or are the official baker for your family holiday parties, you likely know just how important this tool is. So when I received the Great Jones Little Chill Duo as part of the launch, my friend was delighted: She finally had the tool she needed.

What Is the Great Jones Little Chill Duo?

If you’re familiar with Great Jones’ viral Holy Sheet Pan, you’ve likely seen its smaller sibling, the Little Sheet Pan. It’s a quarter-size sheet pan, which is great for baking. While the Holy Sheet Pan has a larger cooling rack to pair with it, the Little Sheet Pan did not — until now. Enter: The Little Chill Duo, which includes two small cooling racks designed for quarter-size sheet pans. Need just one? You can even buy the Little Chill and Little Sheet together!

The Little Chill comes in four non-toxic colors, adding a pop of personality to your quarter sheet pans. It’s perfect for letting freshly baked bread or a batch of chocolate chip cookies cool. You can also use it in the oven (it’s safe up to 450 degrees), allowing heat to circulate around your food and crisp it to perfection. When you’re done, toss it in the dishwasher (although we recommend hand-washing it to keep it in the best condition). It’s a great addition to your kitchen arsenal!

Why I Love the Great Jones Little Chill Duo

Let’s face it: I’m not the dedicated baker here (that’s my roommate’s job!), but this sheet pan has withstood all the baking tasks she’s put it through. I even used it to make chicken wings and was thoroughly impressed with how crispy they came out (the rack lets all the fat drip off, allowing the chicken to crisp perfectly). I also like that it’s oven-safe, which allows you to bake and cook with it rather than just use it strictly for cooling. The spacing of the wires is just right — not too large for small items like vegetables or tiny cookies. It’s the perfect little rack, and its color options match my Little Sheet Pan perfectly! No matter what you throw at this cooling rack, it’s there, chillin’.
